AF700 ( Raichle Acceleration Box ) - modification

I have had a good exchange of emails with Rob, who modified his SB225 so they could use the Raichle Acceleration box. This one comes on the AF700, and since i'm going to get them, i wanted to know how to modify it:

225's.

I think that the pictures illustrate how the modifications were made. I
also didn't take the RAB apart because I thought the pictures were self
explanatory. If something is unclear or needs a better explanation, just
let me know and I'll send a few more pictures.

...My next modifications will be experimenting with different springs,
harder-softer etc. Raichle only makes one spring, as far as I know, so I
will be looking for springs from the hardware store.

...I personally like very LITTLE forward lean when riding. On the 121's or
the 225's I like them to be very relaxed or more so that your legs are
straight. On the 225' or 325's this is about a 4 or 5 setting on the
ride-relax mechanism.
...The AF 700's have A LOT of forward lean, even at the minimum lean setting.
Similar to a 2-3 on the old ride-relax settings. My guess is that this
is better for the more forward racing style.
To change this I borrowed a Metric Die&Tap set and added 3 or 4 more
threads to the R. Accelerator Box (AF 700). This allowed me to set the
forward lean the same as the 121's etc.

Hello, I'm using the Raicle AF 700 ts on a skwal, and would like to do the modification with more threads on the bolt. But how to get those parts apart?

Hi Kaare

In order to take the RAB spring off of your boot, simple push the pins out. The pins that hold the top and bottom of the boot RAB in place.

Use a hammer and a small screw drive, hole punch or even a large nail to tap the two pins out.

When doing this you will notice that one side of the pin is smooth, while the other has ridges like a file (To stop the pin from moving when in use.) It is easier to push the pins out in the direction (or side) that the ridges are on.

Dave Morgan also good enough to advised me of the following:

One word of caution, the holes in the shell, that hold the mounting pin in place, can become worn with repeated insertion/removal. Only do it once or twice.

The picture is of the newer low friction unit? I picked mine up (in stock)
from Sport Trend Shop in Hinwil (Switzerland) (http://www.sts-online.ch)
for 15 CHF. The softer springs were another 5 CHF.

To ensure a secure re-fit, flip the pin so that the ridged end is put into the undamaged hole.
