Hi all!
Next saturday we're off to Zinal and I'm getting more and more excited about it! Besides I really need a vacation so the joy is immense.
What I wanted to ask about are conditions on pistes in Zinal and Grimentz. In Slovenia if it says 40cm of snow is what they want to say "take along your old board because you'll destray it!", How is it in Zinal? Apparently there will be some snow tomorrow, but the forecast is not that ganerous with snow, I hope at least temperatures are low enough.
Now back to dancing snow dance...
Bye,
Jakob

The snow conditions are very bad for now, in the Swiss Alps as well as in the French Alps
Many stones: there is as much snow at 1500m than at 2500m. It has snowed only 3-4 days in December... Before we had 0 cm
The snow reports lie! Indeed: "40 cm" = take you old board.
Zinal is in one of the worst area this season, like Cran-Montana, Verbier, ... Same thing for St-Moritz.

I have carved only twice in Zinal this season! Usually at this time I have carved there for 15 days at least...
Let's pray for snow very soon
What a bad season! Moreover it is short: many resorts close in the beginning of April because Eastern is very early

PS: However no temperature problems in Zinal: it's high and not facing the sun!

Not really, Northern Sweden is saturated with that white stuff. Right now it's snowing, and they expect even more snow.
From Dundrets homepage (
www.dundret.se)
Temp: -6 C
Wind: 0
Snowdepth:
slopes: 75 cm
surroundings: 78 cm
Too bad the mountain is kind of small.

Holly Shit!
What if we'll have no snow? We might sit and talk / drink in the resorts while watching the EC videos....
If someone has good connections to the Great Holly Snow God please forward our request to him/her. (is it a she or a he?)
Cheers,
István

If it's gonna be that bad, there's still a possibility to drive from Zinal to Saas Fee, I guess there's a glacier...
And I see that Grimentz has a bit more snow...

Yes, it's better in Grimentz (12 minutes away from Zinal). And there is artificial snow on some slopes, especially on one that is very good for extremecarving.
So don't worry folks, if it doesn't snow in 16 days, we have this solution for the ECS '05!

In Austria conditions are not that bad.
In Carinthia up to 2m. My parents were just there, said it wonderfull (Nassfeld) and Arlberg has heeps (compared to your conditions) of snow (1-1,60m) as usual. Otherwise there are some snowholes like Hochkar (1m but but no stones and very, very nice since 29november,) and the other usual spots where there will be allways snow, ever if they are not very high. Otherwise there is a lot of artificial snow in Austria on top of the 50cm which are nearly everywhere above 1500m for the moment

Benn,
My question was rather specific and as a such was related to the snow conditions in Zinal.
At the same time it is good to know that while we are screwed in Zinal with no snow, but rocks (which should be the greatest couple of days for me in the year) there is snow on the other side of the globe....
Cheers,
István

Anyway, according to Zinal: pray and see !
