Bomberonline Trenchdigger2 Levermodification

Post by e-mammut » Tuesday 23 November 2004, 21:28

Welcome to the new season!

I need to know how to modify a Trenchdigger2
Platebinding on the frontlever .

Problem:
the lever takes too much space on a
frontsideturn ;
the bindings have to be angled too much
forward ;

I heard about the catek lever .
does anybody know how to put
the catek lever on a trenchdigger2?

any other suggestions?

   :?: 8O 8O 8O

Vary in height

Post by Hans » Wednesday 24 November 2004, 8:13

Hi,

You can try to set the lugs in an other way (possibilty for micro adjustment) or contact Fin or Michelle if things doesn't work out right for you before you spend your money on Catekbails.

http://www.bomberonline.com/store/bindi ... andard.cfm
Lug to Bail Interface with 30% Stronger Return Spring
Bombers patented lug interface at the ends of the beefy 1/4” (6.35mm) bails guarantees a solid and strong connection to the board. It also allows for Micro-Adjustment of the bail tension if needed. The TD2 torsion return spring is now 30% stronger than found in the TD1. Those bails now stand at attention no matter what the conditions are.
Hope this helps.

Frontbails

Post by Hans » Wednesday 24 November 2004, 8:39

Hi, E-mammut,

I think i didn't understand your topic. But now I think, I do. Does your frontbails touch the snow when making a frontside turn? If that's the case, you can try to make the Cateklevers but it's a hell of a job, I can tell you.
With the right machinery, may be not. In the USA they use other threads than in Europe. They use Imperial instead of Metric overhere in Europe. So I hope you can find the right tools to make the right threads to the steel.

Angles

Post by István » Wednesday 24 November 2004, 9:29

E-mammut,

Just by curiosity: what angles do you apply and what is the waist width of your board?

Instead of going into huge modifications you might try higher angles or a wider board.

Cheers,

István

Hi,
When reading the posts of all those modifications and special adjustments, I am wondering whether they are really necessary? No wonder why this sport is not very big and popular if it is necessary to spend ours of rebuilding, engineering, and modifications in order to make the equipment work properly. It is much easier with skis and probably with freeride boards and soft bindings. Just pop in the bindings and ride. That's it. Among my sport friends I am considered to be an equipment freak, but this turns me off. What is the problem with the levers? Do they open up during the turns? I have not ECd with the TD2s yet, only F2 Race Titaniums and never experienced any problems. The problem with the TD2s for the first two days is too soft springs in my opinion, so the bindings are very fumbly to attach. I think we should strive for having equipment, such as bindings designed to be far more use friendly so the most of us just can take the equipment out of the box, mount it, go and have fun. Some times I wonder whether designers and manufacturers of sport equipment (it is not only a problem confined to snowboard bindings) ever have been out there and tried their own stuff. If it is necessary to have a fully equipped mechanical work place, a degree in engineering and lots of spare time in order to make the equipment work, it is not for me.

Intec SI's work just out of box, they dont need any modification :D
I dont have any need to go back to manual bindings anymore.

But surely i see that designing proper manual binding is challenge, specially cause interface to bindings is so much more loosely specified (or is not specified at all) than on skiboots.
And cause angles used vary also direction to forces vary so much more than with skiside.
Just 2 more days until first carves :clap2:

modifications

Post by István » Wednesday 24 November 2004, 20:46

Guys,

We R talking about semantics here. Everything can be enhanced or made better. E.g. you buy an MB SL500 or you go for the MB AMG SL55 or even the SL65. U C?

Otherwise TD2 is not that baaaaad.....

Cheers,

Istvan

Muchas gracias for the fast replies !

Still I have open questions :
As I'm now serious about manufacturing my
own customized frontbail/-lever combination.

Where do I get a strong material for the bail ?
Who is selling tools for threatening in non metric ,
imperial measurements ?
Does anybody know about other manufacturers
besides catek and bomber for providing parts.
If I need a customized lever :
Any known adresses of aluminum vendors in
germany (or elsewhere)?

Dan .

Why one would be stuck to Imperial stuff ??
It is much easier to change threads to metric, if needed.
Catek and Bomber, to my knowledge are only supliers for Al front clips, and from those Catek ones are more easier put to any manual binding.
They sell those as spare parts.
But if one wants to do own design, just look for Catek design, make your own possible improvements and then it is just machining 8)
But dont think first where to get material, you can look it in Yellow pages, but think first for your design and do you want to do it from AL or steel, that will be anyway much harder part of process, i know 8O

Hi, Pokkis

Because the threads of the lugs of the TD2's are imperial threads. That's why you have to thread the new modified Catek bails with imperial too. Or do you have another idea to make the system metric (bails and lugs)?

metric

Of course it would be easy to drill out the imperial threads and make some metric at the binding itself maybe using helocoil or something like that.
