who rides switch?

Post by tigger » Tuesday 26 October 2004, 10:49

i wonder who can carve switch on his raceboard, like the pureboarding guys.
it looks much more impressive on a raceboard :D , and you get credits from softbooters who realize you can do more than gateracing.
learning to ride switch is good training because you feel like a beginner and have to concentrate on the basics again, it also makes you more sensitive when you try to teach beginners.

Yes Tigger,

I ride on swith on my race board, and it's impresive for softer boots when they see this riding with your feet looking in oposite direccion . 8O

Also it's impresive for me because the board go on the edge like on normal ride at first is difficult when you trie to learn swith, but when you learn it you can see how the technique is the same..

As a snowboard instructor i stand on a twintip so i can ride both ways to show how its done. On hardboots its a different story. I tend to overturn in my backside because i want to look where i am going. frontside is more easy and i even tried some extreme carving (on my frontside) lots of "crash and burns" but i am still practising... In Holland we have artificial indoor slopes and its perfect for "fakie" tryouts.
Fakie on a Hot Blast looks tricky because of the straight tail but i never crashed because it got stuck

switch means switching your direction, riding fakie or backwards down the hill.
just wanna know who else tries to and has some technical tips or tricks, for nice transitions or styles like the laid out fakie fs turn lee discribed.
@Lee : if i had to ride on a indoorslope i think i d also try to become a total bidirectional carver
to me its important to look some turns ahead(äh back). If you face the direction you are riding you ll crash because of the counterrotation.and you really dont need a bend Tail
cheers

Ah, OK. So you look inbetween your legs to see where you're going.

Yeah, I know what you're talking about now. Would indeed look impressive with an alpine.

Switch carving looks pretty cool!

Like Lee said, we are both training switch EC-ing right now. Pretty strange feeling to lay down a turn fakie style

Or even better, two riders riding back to back down LeCol in Zinal, other one normal way and other one switch

I am working on fakie occasionally, just because I think it is good to challenge the body reactions and train all possible motions, not just one. But at least now I do not try to push it.
It can be real fun though :D !
