For me it`s absolutely clear and straight forward answer - "NO"Schneewurm wrote:starikashka, I couldn't say now if I come to Zinal. It depends (snow/weather), perhaps short time before the event I take the decision.
Istvan, see..it`s easy job to get clear and straight forward answer from Schneewurm. Also, it`s easy to predict his future
i`m learning
well, saturday I went to Zinal looking at the webcams...too bad it looked like there was a lot of snow... La Corne was CLOSED.. and freeriding on it has not proven to be a great idea.. I still have stones embedded in the bottom of my Swoard...Whitey wrote:Sometimes it is also interesting to check the snow coverage on the village:

Are this Yours first impressions this winter of "do all"?Silber wrote:... stones embedded in the bottom of my Swoard ...
Please keep in mind: a nice look of white mountains does not mean its alltime good for to ride.
Sure, if there is only a layer of 5 cm of wet snow on short grass, and this layer was transformed during the night to a transparent layer of ice, You can do all. Thats a great thing to carve over such an green-brown surface, without to have after that any scratches on the edge/base. But on a layer of 20-50 cm of light powdersnow on a rocky surface it is not realy recommendet to do all.
So stay on slopes out of man made snow. Watch the map of slopes: the are market in Zinal as "yellow" and described as "Enneigement mécanique".
At the moment I enjoiy the nice warm weather on the alpes. Yesterday temperatures have been on +18°, the mountain dryer (warm wind) and heavy rainfall up to 2200/2400 meters have cleaned the rocks in a expressive way. That was very good for the nature. Because of hot earth clima autumn was to dry and the lower alps has to be feed with water!
So while earth clima is on change I adapt my outdor activities to that. Best time now for riding with a bicycle over some alpine-passes, no traffic at all like on sumerdays (about 50% of cars then, are not Swiss cars).
@starikashka
Sorry, but my answer was not "NO"!
If local bakery is running out, You can order them online here direct to Your room/hotel choose: "Bakery, Pastries, Flour", then "Bread & pastries" and then "Rolls"starikashka wrote:I have not seen any croissants ever.

like Pogo, Kessler, Virus, Hot, Nidecker and others,
from 151 up to 183 cm and 14 to 27.4 cm width,
covering any kind of shapes with
any kind of boots and bindings.

Well I wasn't on a "Do all" board... but imagine getting to Zinal with both Barthelemy and La Corne closed... After 1 hour looking at all the powder on la Corne with already 10 tracks that looked ok (no visible sign of grass/rocks) I could not resist. Took the extremecarver for a joyride on freshsnow.. and the first 6 turns were awesome..Schneewurm wrote:Are this Yours first impressions this winter of "do all"?Silber wrote:... stones embedded in the bottom of my Swoard ...

Hopefully the temperature will drop a lot a few days (or more) before ECS
By than, when there is still lack of snow, we could invitate the chinese carvers and ask them to bring some silver iodide to let it snow like they did in Beijing

ecs 2010 - hotel accomodations and room sharing
Hello Fellow carvers,
I finally was able to secure a room in Zinal for the ECS2010.
It seems that most hotels are already booked solid.
I have gotten a positive answer from hotel Europe (info@europezinal.ch - and not info@hoteleuropezinal.ch as reported on their site.)
Anyway: if someone is left out and wants to share a double room, it is OK for me. My only requirement is: non smokers!
My plan is to arrive on Th. the 28-th and stay for four nights, thus leaving Zinal on Feb. 1-st around noon.
Here is the answer I got from hotel Europe:
