Sölden, 1-2-3 October - Big Fun

Post by István » Thursday 16 September 2004, 16:06

Guys,

I've told some of you that I'm planning to go to Sölden for a season opening session. Time has come for that and time waits for nobody.

Date is 1-2-3 October (Friday, Saturday, Sunday), see you guys there if you can make it.

Hopefully the great weather god will be kind with us, slopes will be open, snow is guaranteed, just like good drinks in the Hütte.

Let me know if any of you can join, it would be a good fun to meet there!

Cheers,

István

Post by Mariusz.Zamojski » Thursday 16 September 2004, 16:36

Hi

I am planning to be in Solden in the middle of November.

Istvan, when you come back please review that resort (in terms of EC slopes)

Mariusz,

Sölden (Ötztaller Gletscher) is probably the best place for EC in Austria, I can tell you that. Others might have a different opinion, but let's see.

Pitztal, that is close to that is also pretty good.

Cheers,

István

Istvan,

I could possibly make it. Do you have any info about accomodation? Do they already have snow that early in the season?

Let me know. Thanks

Sölden

Post by István » Friday 17 September 2004, 8:50

Hey,

Couple of slopes are open (the glacier slopes), check out:
http://www.soelden.com/main/EN/SO/Activ ... =main.html

As for the accomodation I have not booked yet (wanted to do it yesterday evening, but had too much drinks with a couple of friends, thus could not make it.... :-) ). I'll check it this weekend, the lates, but there should not be a problem at this time of the year.

Try:
http://www.soelden.com/main/EN/SO/Zimme ... =main.html

or:
http://www.tiscover.at/

Let me know if you can make it to Sölden that time.

Kindest,

István

.....what to say about this post???

If within the next two weeks no snow is comming (not just a little bit - Ißm talking about 2m or more): Poor boards!! The glacier realy looks bad...If you want to kill your boards.....

I was there two weeks ago with my mountainbike. Down from Sölden, Gigijoch, Rettenbach, Tiefenbach....NO SNOW!!!

:xmas:

But there is still hope....and: Where ever there is snow - it is always good for carving!

Snow-conditions

Post by István » Monday 20 September 2004, 14:06

Well, snowreport says there is 130 cm snow (and must be 1-200 m of ice beneath...) and the glacier slopes are open.

Which slope have you seen exactly? I doubt if you went up to the glacier slope by bike.... or did you?

Cheers,

István

ps.: Anyway, I'll call them before...

Well.....you can believe me....

In fact, there is only one Slobe to ride at the moment - the Rettenbach top section. Everything else is ice and stones....I could send you some pics. I went up to the RettenbachStation, through the tunnel and then up the Tiefenbach, took the glacier trail down to Vent. So I saw the whole area.

I know Sölden now for about 5 years.....The tiefenbach looked bad in the bottom section.... :?

The 2m snow are on top of the mountains.....maybe.....

Snow conditions

Post by István » Tuesday 21 September 2004, 9:10

Well, thx for the advice, indeed only 2 slopes are open, #32 & #35..... but what else can I do if I want to ride..... might go to the North Pole :-)

Anyway, Pitztal and Kaunertal are in the neighbourhood, I do not really like Kaunertal, but Pitztal is fine, so we might check that out, too.

Cheers,

István

Destroy

Post by István » Tuesday 21 September 2004, 16:00

Well, that I defineteley don't want....

I think that those 2 slopes are OK from a snow perspective, the problem is that those are 2 blue slopes with a length of 1 km approx, not really for EC.

I think this is what McFussel also wanted to express.

Well, life is not easy, but I'm STILL going, the season will be started.

Now everyone together pray for some snow for me :-)

Cheers,

István

ps.: Could not find the snow report on the Pitztal web, might call them to get to know what the situation there is.

Matt is right - I can understand you too  But think of your board AND paying 35€ for one day on two slopes????? :naughty:

BUT!!!! Maybee luck is with all boarders.....weatherforecast says from weekend on: 0° layer below 2000m and heavy snowfalls..... :clap2:

Pitztal....hmmm.....it´s nice for one day, but only one good slope and loooooooong waiting times on the lift´s (most the time t-bars). For me thats just a bypass solution.... 8O

 Pray folks...PRAY!!!!!

But I wait until conditions are worth to go!

Snow

Post by István » Tuesday 21 September 2004, 16:18

That's the point, some snow might come.... I also check the weather forecast in every hour :-)

Cheers,

István

ps.: U R right, Pitztal is the T-bar place.... but not that bad. Actually, glaciers are usually one good slope with a T-bar (cannot build a cabin lift on ice). Of course there are exeptions....
