Relation cant/lift - angles

Post by Jakob » Wednesday 2 June 2004, 10:12

Hi everybody!

The snow season is (except for lucky few) over, but I still can't get EC out of my head. I was thinking things I tried over this season and the stuff I've learnt from this site over.

I was wandering: EC guys, Patrice, Jacques and Nils and probably many others ride bindings flat on the board. That is in most cases Swoard, which is considerably wide compared to other brands as we all know. Besides, width of Swoard allows rider to ride lower angles. Such setup defines certain body position on the board and thus the ability to ride, making EC easier.

Now, could cant/lift help in the way to make ride on narrower board with higher angles easier? I can picture myself easier on the wide board with bindings flat than on narower board. I don't really know why, but it has also proven for me on the slope. I have difficulties riding with bindings flat and when I switch to cant/lift pad the difficulties disappear. :? I can control edge pressure, I can guide the board, I can press easier.

Is there a relation between width of the board, stance angle and cant/lift or am I just an old dog that can't learn new tricks? :?:

How many of you do ride flat and on which board?

Thanx,

Jakob

I ride everything flat, from 14 cm wide Bastard to Swoard.
With high angles lift is useful only to get longer stance for long sticks.
I used to have 3degrees lift under my rear foot (but have nowadays dropped due i feel more comfy without that) but for long board but due my longest is only 188 Burner i dont have such need, for board 200+ i would most propably start with small lift.

I ride with my bindings flat; my board:nitro gtx 19.5 wide, for the next season my other board will be 168H swoard :D

I rode with lift and 3 degrees cant on the rear foot but my body was in counter rotation :? and my knees was touching, :? this is no good, at least for EC technique, perhaps this setting will be good for a race technique.

Since I ride with bindings flat I have more control on the board edge , not only making carving also jumping, making moguls  ...... For me and for my EC technique is more comfy ride with bindings flat. :D :D

greets Sito

Hey Jakob,

I started riding totally flat at the beginning of this season. Main difference for me is the feeling of beeing linked much more direclty to the board. This leads to better control and more stability ans sensitivity. At the beginning I had some probs with my knees because I didn't change stance width, so it was too wide of course. But I canged to little less stance and everything is all right now (also the feeling was quite different with 1 cm less stance).

I think, the main relationship is between heel lift and stance width. So maybe reducing stance will help you. But I also believe, that board control is better without cant/heel lift.
