How wide is narrow board?

Post by pokkis » Friday 11 April 2008, 18:32

Please indicate what is maximum center width of board to be still called as narrow board, ie all boards more wider than this width are called wide boards and all as wide or more narrow are called narrow boards

Narrow??

Interesting poll. I voted 20cm. That's about the width where the competitionboards are. So my opinion is that anything smaller can be called a narrow board.

Then you should have voted 19 cause now you vote that 20cm is also narrow

Just to be even more complicated:

Maybe the question should be: "What are high / low bindig angles", as for a guy with 47 Eurosize feet 20cm waist width is pretty narrow...

Fucking awesome both of them.

Narrow or wide? Is this even the question? One person wrote in his description of carving philosophy on Dec. 2005 (2.5 years ago):
I ride mostly with narrow boards and quite steep angles, rarely under 60 degrees.
As I understand, this person has changed his opinion after this statement quite a lot about boards (riding now boards with center width 21/23 cm) and binding angles. So I don't see any reason to get agitated over personal and riding preferences/technique/style: what is preferred today, may be thing that we look at tomorrow and laugh at. Just don't forget 2 most important rules about riding:
  • have fun
  • don't eat yellow snow
Converting potential energy to kinetic..

I´m very surprised. 8O We are talking about alpine boards, aren´t we :?: :?:
Most raceboards have a center width from 18 to 20 cm. That´s normal for me.
Freecarver and extremecarving boards mostly range from 20 to 23 cm. That would be a wide board for me.
So, less than 18 cm is narrow (for my opinion).
And less than 15,5 cm is extremely narrow.

Most modern race boards, i mean serious race boards, are slightly more than 20 cm today
