contact length
Hi there everybody!
Well, about the subject.
Untrivial question: how does contact lenght affect to the curve radius?
For example, can shorter contact make a smaller curve radius within the same total board lenght?
Board with total 169 cm and 146 contact vs board with 169 total and 151 contact.

Contact length is not related to radius.
I mean: radius is a function of several parameters.
Given 2 boards A and B,
fixing a different contact lenght for both, they could have
a) same radius
b) A radius higher than B radius
c) B radius higher than A radius

the more the nose is lifted, the more you can surf on irregular terrain.device wrote:So, if I read You right, the contact length does not affect to the curve radius at all? It's not about the board's one.
And how about the combination of shorter contact and pre-lifted nose (nose that starts to lift earlier than it should)?
But most forward the nose lifts, less effective edge you have (and higher mass that moves loosing stability).
It depends also on the shape of the tip.
Round tip were considered to be less stable than vertex one (like silberpfeil): vertex had less mass.
Old theories? Boh?!...

There are two ways to look at a shape: vertical shape and outline.RicHard wrote:the more the nose is lifted, the more you can surf on irregular terrain.device wrote:So, if I read You right, the contact length does not affect to the curve radius at all? It's not about the board's one.

Contact length is an issue of vertical shape, effective edge an issue of outline. Many modern boards use vertical shapes, on which the nose is bent upwards (vertical shape) before the effective edge ends. Boards made like this are said to start carving easier and to be more forgiving. A wider radius of the nose (i.e. G.S.-boards) should run easier over croppy terrain.
