olè! Raphael, we just miss your pro video equipment...you'll have to give us some advice on that for when the snow will be good and the "reds" will be out again..

Could you please give more details about the snow conditions in July and tell me if it was possible to ride (and carve?) until 11 or 12 AM ?

thanks!

Clip and condition of glaciers

Post by Hans » Wednesday 1 August 2007, 0:54

Nice clip.

Hi Silver, some info about other glaciers if you are interested:
I have been on two glaciers this summer in July: Bormio (Stelviopass) at about 3400m and at Schnalstal at about 3200m. Till 11:00 it was reasonable, the temps were about 2 degrees C. , after 12 the lifts were closed due to soft snow as a result of too much sun (about 2 till 4 degrees C). But it's still not to compare with the hardpacked in winter.

Don't know about Tignes.

the snow was wet and too soft, the problem is that the week before felt much snow and rain, and the slopes was not well prepared...the second day i was there has rained at 3.500Mt :(

I found the best condition (really winter snow) at the end of June at Zermatt...consider that zermatt is best oriented and the sun come perpendicular on the slopes only in the afternoon..Tignes is oriented to the other side!
Now the situation appear to be better than July because new snow has fallen and the temperature has decreased, and every glacier is full of ski clubs... so this is a guarantee to find slopes best prepared

This is a good link to get snow information: http://www.skiclub.co.uk/skiclub/report ... efault.asp

....have fun and a good carving

In the last season we often met other guys of the forum, and I hope that this year the group of carver will become bigger

Well, i can only give advices if asked specific questions.
There's no perfect video or video equipement. It all depends on what you intend to do.
Feel free to ask...

yes...the last year i was in Tignes in November and the slopes were well prepared but the color of the tracks were blue...all was icy. But I think this was a strange event....the last year the season began too late, and on the glacier it was possible to find only old and packed ice!
