Plate bindings

Post by István » Saturday 21 April 2007, 15:45

Seemingly F2 will come out with a plate....

Does it really change the riding charactheristics for better compared to a small foot print and simmetrical base binding like TD2?

My logic: the bigger the plate, the more flex is needed to compensate for the bending of the board. More flex will also take away from the directness of a stiff binding. There must be a trade-off somewhere.

Anyone any experience?

I saw some on those things during the last winter olympic games. It seems to redistribute the binding forces along the board and allow for some longitudinal bending under the binding, while keeping some tortional stiffness, thanks to the inside titanium parts. The rubber pads allow to use stiff bindings and let the board flex more naturally. Kind of a TD2 pad on steroids !

The drawback is that it adds quite some height and levering to the bindings, which is great for racing but not for EC.

Nevertheless, it's very pleasant to see some new hardbooter stuff being advertised and sold.

So what is telling us FuckTwice in the F2 Snowboards 07/08 Publication about it:

F2 is known as market leader for years when it comes to plate bindings, especially with our Intec system in the area of step-in-bindings; countless wins in the World Cup are proof of the unique performance. To ensure highest quality levels, all our bindings are "Made in Germany".

S-FLEX absorber plates:
Developped with our WC racing team. F2 Sflex system is the first and only true free-floating connection of the boot/binding to the board. F2 Sflex allows precise pressure transfer and edge control. It has very unique central anti vibration qualities, which makes the board really quiet and stable in all speeds, turns and terrains. F2 Sflex provides the rider with a very pleasurable feeling on the board. All these benefits apply with unchallenged low wight!

One information I miss. How many Flex-Options I can get.
I don't think so, than a truck would work with the same dampening elements like a 2CV (small French car)!
So we need some Sflex's for soft and stiff boards, for light and heavy riders (and pheraps also for thin boards under 18cm width).
Gliding on Snowboards,
like Pogo, Kessler, Virus, Hot, Nidecker and others,
from 151 up to 183 cm and 14 to 27.4 cm width,
covering any kind of shapes with
any kind of boots and bindings.

F2 follows the trend here. At the SG Invitational many more sytems could be seen. It's not easy to see however if you need a plate or not and if you can profit from one. Using one for racing involves different timing as far as i understood.
