Hot on the edge! Sigi Grabner presents new Snowboard event in Ischgl, Austria: SG Invitational, 13th – 15th of April 2007
A first-class season final for alpinriders, freecarvers and speedriders will be offered at the SG Invitational in Ischgl from 13th – 15th of April 2007. An exciting and thrilling parallel format with ambitious amateurs, active Worldcup-Riders and Snowboard-Legends of the early days stays on the programme. 16 teams will battle for titles and trophies, whereas each team consists of one professional, one legend, one rookie and one amateur snowboarder!
Well known names are sparkling from the starting list: Current 2007 World Champions Heidi Neururer (AUT) and Rok Flander (SLO), Vice-World Champion 2007 Marion Kreiner (AUT) and serial winner since 13 years on his international career, Sigi Grabner. Just as Karl-Heinz Zangerl (World Champion of 1997 & 1999) will again compete against former opponents like Hansi Rösch (GER) and Gerry Ring (AUT).
Some of the fastest ladies from back in the days, Steffi v. Siebenthal (SUI) and Gitti Köck (AUT), will carve for victory once more: This extraordinary contest was created by the most successful international racer of Austria and Olympic bronce medaillist of Torino 2006 Sigi Grabner.
Perfect partners to make this special event happen were found with the Snowboard brand SG Snowboards by Sigi Grabner and the Tyrolean Wintersport-Resort Ischgl.

Oh what great news I just read above that Gerry Ring takes part too. Seems like all of the best lower Austrian raceboarders (Gerry Ring, Felix Stadler, Benjamin Karl) come together to compete. I'm really looking forward seeing the best of the east together again. Especially Ring has a fantastic style for carving. I race against him on all races here I take part, I'll need loads of practice to come near to him.
Seems like all Austrian hardboot legends will come together, something which doesn't even happen on Austrian Championships. I'm sure this has to do with the great respect for Sigi Grabner we all have here.

Guys,
I'm thinking about joining this event, as it looks fun and there is an impressive list of vendor demos, but I'm concerned about the weather.
My favourite forecast page (wetter.at) currently predicts 10+ Celsius temperatures for the whole weekend in Ischgl, and this usually means
very soft snow, big bumps early, and bad carving experience overall.
So, a glacier trip to Sölden or Pitztal may be a better idea.

Ischgl goes up to 3000m so I think at the top it should be allright. Lets hope that they move the whole event up to the Idalpe and don't stay in the valley.
The glaciers will normally be very bery crowded on the weekends and in Austria are not much higher. If you go to a glacier I'ld recommend Mölltaler or Stubai. Definitely not Sölden.
Don't miss out on this event.
Vendors List is:
SG Snowboards
F2
Goltes
Pureboarding
Virus
Ibex
UPZ
Zanier
Toko
Oh and the riders list looks pretty impressive too.
