Learning to Extreme Carve near NYC

Post by MerkwürdigSchnitzer » Wednesday 28 February 2007, 8:23

Ok at this point I’m sure you’re used to free style boarders seeing what you guys can do and going insane.
I’m going to need sedatives soon!

I can’t believe your technique. You guys look like your slalom water-skiing on an ocean of snow with out a freakin’ boat while hugging the mountain. Highspeed spider-monkeys with your arms out swinging on the mountain face. Though I’m sure this is opposite to the physics since your literally standing on the centripetal force of your technique or skill. This is 2007 and opus4 is 2004 so I’m sure I’m way behind.

I just started boarding about 3 years ago with a crappy hand me down Head board and thought I went to heaven when I bought a new Burton Vapor with C60’s, elevators and switched out for skybacks.

Never liked tricks and think rails rides are the snowboard industry’s equivalent of tobacco for kids. I’ve always been annoyed the snowboard industry never got the clip technology and still uses laces…surely a juvenile appeal to market to the kid’s perception of a ski-counter-culture. Ok, ok, apologies for my rant.

I love the feel of almost carving and since my Vapor I believe in appropriate technology and training. However, my nimble little freerider will never get me there.
Please tell me where near New York City I can learn your technique and get enough guidance to choose between your nine various Swoards, and select appropriate bindings and hard boots.
also, where would you say are the best schools /places to learn. if exceptionally good i would i travel to austia, germany, etc..

Thanks,

Donn

Vapor 160 cm, C-60, salamon boots ….but looking for real carving gear.

New York City has virtually no hard gear whatsoever. I lived there for more than 6 years and I have only seen 1 hot blast in 1999....

Until Swoard production starts again, u can get your gear from www.bomberonline.com or www.yyzcanuck.com (in Canada).

Else, your best bets for great board in the US are:

Coiler
Donek
Prior

They can make the board u need no prob (might wait some time before u get it though).

Otherwise ebay is always a great choice for bargains

Ciao

Dude,

Virus is not produced OR retailed anywhere near NYC as far as I know...

I doubt our friend wants to spend >1100€*1.3=>1430USD + Shipping + Duty for a Virus EC like yours...

Ciao!!

If Virus, who was in charge of producing Swoard this year, can't produce them at all/on schedule, why oh why would you order a Virus???

I second yyzcanuck.com or Coiler. Or wait until Swoard production starts again. They are working hard on it so be patient. Meanwhile you can start working on your carving technique.

I don't deny the board quality or quality of production, however I was questioning the production itself.

for the moment perhaps not !!
but I find really dangerous to provide itself in a manufacturer who proved that it was not able to keep to his commitments.

I would never buy a Virus snowbaord because I understood too many negative things far of it.

It's soon the end of the winter season try to wait until the next one and see if swoard have snowboard to sell at this time.

swoard is simply the best for EC....

Still, being on that side of the ocean I would definitely pay a visit to Bruce Varsava to get one of his boards custom made...Great price for the product!!
