I have a problem with my heel release mechanism, which locks in place and i cant open it by pulling.
Burton Race Physics step-in, I don't remember the year, red plastic, i use them some 10-15 times a season, original heel, once I replaced the pulling leash.

Anybody knows why this happens and how to solve it, possibly without replacing the bindings

Welcome Tomic
I know exactly the problem you are talking about, I think it is a design flaw with the bindings. I wasn't able to 'fix' the problem, but did really reduce the number of times it would get stuck during a day of riding.
The first thing I did was use wet/dry sand paper to REALLY smooth and polish the pins on the heel of the binding.
The next step was to be SUPER accurate with the boot binding alignment.
I made sure that the holes on the boot heel receiver part were set up so that:
-the surface of the pins that are closest to the front of the binding were as CLOSE as possible to the inside of the hole on the boot heel receiver.
*Don't center the hole on the pins when adjusting the bindings.*
Also keep a tool on your pocket to pry the bindings off your boot when they really get stuck.
Hope this helps.
Rob
PS - Keep reading the post here and you will find A LOT of guys use F2 race bindings with the toe lever.

Thx for your help. Too bad I sprained my ankle badly and won't be able to test solutions this season.
