Shipping tax for Holland!
Hi, Jan!
Do you know if there will be taxes for a SWOARD sent to Holland?
I will be in Holland late April and I wanted to avoid high shipping
cost to Canada.
Is there different levels of taxation from one country to another?
If so do you know the % for Holland?
Thanks, Francois

Hi there
there is a agreement between Switserland and Holland for import and export taxes. So you do not have to pay if the taxes are already payd in Switserland. Check this with the Swoard guys. Otherwise for snowboards there is 19% VAT and 3% import tax. Hope to have helped you.

Hi eos4life and ablazespy
I think you definately have to pay taxes. Here in Switzerland (with z, not s
) we pay 7.6% VAT. That has to be added to the price. I am not into export/import business and I didn't know that there is an agreement between Switzerland and Holland. But it sounds possible what ablazespy said. Don't forget: Switzerland did not joined the EU!
I also suggest to check this issue with the Swoard guys.
Happy carving!

I was wondering how one is supposed to be asked to pay taxes on a swoard. Is it at delivery? or should one receive later an invoice from the customs?
my experience: 10 days ago I received a swoard (2 in fact) in holland (actually the address is on an international ground owned by a european organization). so far I've not been asked any tax.
I can't tell for sure the reason why I haven't paid any tax.
But what I can tell you for sure is that shipping to holland costs almost the same as the amount of tax you would pay in switzerland, which is around 60 euros.
Eosforlife: If you have the time, what about flying low-cost from amsterdam to geneva, collecting your board and trying it out?

I also did receive a Swoard last week in Holland (Rotterdam). I haven't heard a thing from the customsguys yet (may be I will hear from them later). I will post a reply if I have to pay. When I ordered a Catekbinding from the USA last year, I had to pay the taxes of 19% over the total amount and I had to pay administrationcostst of about 4% (the parcel was intercepted by german customguys in Frankfurt).
So I don't understand this international taxrules anymore
.
Greetings, Hans

Hello, Jan
I looked it up at our dutch douanesite (www.douane.nl)
The total importcosts are: 19% of taxes and depending on the sort of article, you also pay importrights about 3% till 5% (over the total amount of the article including the shippingcosts, yeah these guys are going all the way if it is about taxes). I also bought a total edge sharpening set of Tool Tonic last week from Lausanne/Switzerland (recommended at this forum, great stuff, the best you can get and very easy to use) and didn't pay taxes either. By the way, Jan, are you a dutch guy? Your name is dutch anyway (your internet site didn't look dutch).

tool tonic and taxes
glad u liked the tool tonic hans! changed my life here!! really a must have thing no?
As for taxes it is totally random: at certain times douanes/customs will scan all parcels and apply taxes on them, at other times very few chances to pay taxes... so cross fingers everyone!!!! and this is true for almost every country in the occidental world> too many parcels too few custom people !! as simple as that!!

About taxes: 2 weeks after receiving the board I received today the invoice for the VAT
Well, so far the dutch administration sticks to its reputation: I've even been asked to pay VAT on the board I received as replacement under warranty, for which I had to pay 0 euro!!
I don't know how they calculate the VAT, but it seems it's not based on the price stated on the invoice.
I wrote a letter to contest the amount and ask for explanations, I'll tell you the result when I get an answer...

actually it seems that the board was smashed violently or that something very hard and very heavy fell on it during shipment. the topsheet is torn over a few centimeters and you can see the material inside. The affected area is quite close to the side of the board, but surprisingly the side is untouched, straight as new. the sole is also in perfect shape. maybe the special core acted as a spring and made the shock bounce, so that only the top seems hurt.
I'm waiting for instructions to probably send it back to switzerland. There our shapers will tell if it can still perform as new...
So don't worry, it's not a design problem, but a handling problem. which may be difficult to prevent, being seldom and violent. I find the packaging is quite good. It's not sure whether a "fragile" sticker or a bit more stuff to fill in the box would help...
Moreover, I hereby wish to congratulate the EC guys for their work: the replacement board came in the day after!!!
