Hi Yann,

I use GPSAR mostly for speedsurfing at Strand Horst.

I use the Geko201, and the interval always on 2 seconds (the speedsurfing interval).

I took the Geko with me for 1 day.

I still have the tracklog, but it's 2-second interval.
If you're still interested, send me your email in a PM.

Are we there yet?

We are developing a very cool speedometer for your ski or snowboard. We think we’re on to something, but we want your feedback.

We’ll give you a cool t-shirt just for taking the 5 minutes to complete a survey, PLUS you’ll be entered in a draw with a 1 in 200 chance to win an iPOD Nano. All you have to do is give us your honest feedback.

Only the first 200 responses will be accepted.

Sound pretty good? Then let’s get to it:

Let us know what you think!

Cheers.
Sorry for the nag post. We are almost there but could still use a few more reponses. Very good odds on the iPod. Thanks again for your input.

Cheers,

Menno,
thanks for your gpx. Unfortunately the 2 second period is too long an interval to cope with snowboard turns : we need a one second period to get a realistic centrifugal torke computation. Anyway, with this settings, GPSAR gives about 4.5m/s^2 lateral accelaration, wich means half of one G (half of your body weight).
I'm looking forward to get a gps with one second setting, and improving my carving turns to see how much this value can be !
Yann.

Menno,

So are you saying you can calculate your G-forces in each turn using a gps? How does that work. Please explain you previous post in a bit more detail. That is fascinating. Could this be used to determine the quality of your turns?

Seto,

Sorry pal I'm English only (dam North Americans!) but I think I've seen what your after here: http://www.navman.com/go/sporttool/models/A300.html

It's a pretty cool device. They have different ones for different sports, and the skiing device even does skiing time only which is cool. It's a bit expensive though and has the GPS downside of limited coverage in the trees. Saw this in a rewiew recently, "The timing feature could be improved, as it is the GPS can take up to 80 seconds to get a sat fix and you cannot use it unit this has happened. "

Relating to my previous post, I don't believe the device does g-forces either, but that might not be what you were getting at.

Cheers,

Don't buy the Navman, at least not the one that is on the market now.
With the Navnman you cannot download the data to the computer, and therefore you cannot do any analysis.

Well, you can buy it of course, but it is completely useless for speedsurfing.

Digsnow, have a look here :
www.gpsactionreplay.com
It's a software I've developed for sport (and particularly sailing) activities.
It computes G-force, so it could be interesting for snowboard carving.

Felix, and all Extremecarving members who participated in the survey, due to a complex set of curcustances I am no longer affiliated with the outfit that is driving this project. I have however been assured they plan to make good on their promise of T-shirts and draw for the iPod. You can contact them directly at:
