Pogo Longboard vs Swell Panik

Post by Silber » Thursday 6 October 2005, 19:23

Guys, I decided that Arabella (my Swoard #145) needs a decent off piste/powder companion. I was thinking either to get the Pogo Longboard 180/shaman 193 or a Swell Panik.

Any recommendations?

Thanks to all of you

POGO Longboard

Post by Hans » Thursday 6 October 2005, 19:30

Hi, Silber

I ride a POGO 175 Longboard for 5 years now. The board is perfect for powder and also for raceoriented carving on the pists. I think that a Shaman or other more powder oriented board is more suitable for only powder. The POGO is the best choice when you also want to board pists.
No experiences with Shaman or else, but when you google you can find several topics and extended reviews about these boards.

Greets, Hans.

RadAir Tanker is also great off-piste board. I'm more than happy with mine, on slopes or on off-piste

Silber's board

Post by nils » Friday 7 October 2005, 11:21

I definitely recommend a swallowtail over a rounded tail board for powder. The difference between the feel and ride of the longboard and the shaman is huge, and the shaman can handle much bigger speeds, without danger ;).

Then question of difference between shaman and swellpanik amok ( 193 vs 196cm)
Shaman= surfing feel: really feels like on water. flex is a bit soft, but it glides and makes u really ride smoothly on the snow. A great board
Amok= my long time favorite: a bit stiffer than the shaman, much more powerful board, more nervousness and efficiency in bumpy situations. The nose work in bumpy powder is incredible, like front suspension !

If I had a podium with ST boards it would be:
1. Amok
2. Shaman
3. Miura Dinero

All those boards can carve pretty nicely ( no EC!) and take you on various terrain, even moguls with not too much pain despite length.

Well, thanks guys! But I suspect for the moment I will have to wait since at Pogo they told me shamans are sold out until Christmans and the SW people are not answering me (and I suspect Amoks are already sold out for the season...).

swellpanik

the official retailer for swellpanik is www.krakatoa.fr
You can ask them if they have any left, or any of the new prod ( which should be finished)

Nothing out yet... Nils, do you ride the Amok with hardboots? How manoeuvrable is the board? can you ride it in Verbier's moguls?

I never ride with soft boots... amok is a bit long for deep moguls ! I like the precision of hardboots, I'm riding with 45/30 degrees and when pow is really deep, i get lower angles such as 30/15, to get a more surfing feeling.
I use softer bindings on the amok, compare to TD2 ( old fin's durgiten bindings)
There is a big Alagna Crew that rides amoks and freesurf powder Swallowtails with hardboots too... You might want to ask them about this too :)

I actually happen to know a couple of them (Emanuele and Adriano, do you know them?) and actually I just phoned yesterday Emanuele (who's riding a 175 with soft bindings) to ask him about SWPK.. He kind of reccomended that I got a shorter board than the Amok considering my level of weekly training...but definitely recommended SWPK over Pogo. Maybe I'll go to La Grave to see the SWPK guys in November. Do you think the Amok is a better choice than the shorter boards considering the money they cost?

Well, for the moment I bought another collector item, the infamous O Sin 4807 168cm.... Sometimes I just do stupid things.

la grave in november

Post by nils » Thursday 13 October 2005, 15:42

Risks of no snow at all ! Usually last week end of January is the Swallowmania session, its a good advice to be there and test ride most of the ST on the market :)

Since the time life of the AMok is way over 10 years.. ( you often see people with models from the early 90's ( was called long weapon then) at La Grave or other freeride resorts. The flexs are so perfect, there has just been slight refinement over the last 15 years, and small improvements like the wamp tail or other subtilities.

Well, I was going to La Grave even without snow...plus les deux Alpes are very close by..

Anyway, considering the stupid purchase I just made (actually I am very proud of it considering the price and the buzz about it - it's like owning a Lada Niva or some other weird car like the AMC Pacer..) I might wait until the SW Mania as you suggested.

Thanks! I will be in Solden from 28/10 to 02/11.. if you pass by...

Errata Corrige...NO more O Sin 4807 from the US. Apparently they do not ship to Italy anymore for fear of lost package.... Well, what the heck, I bought a different board from a more reliable country..but I'll wait to post about it auntil it arrives safe in my hands..

Thats too bad Silber, it would make a nice addition to the collection. I am tempted to get one and add it to the classic's collection since I am riding a Winterstick Swallowtail :) one of these years I will get a Swellpanik, Miura or POGO.

.....well...I got my new board: LANCILLOTTO! (at a very good price, comparable to the O SIN)...and then I will pass by the Swallow Mania in La Grave to test the Swell Panick and Pogo directly. Miura is cool, but the website is not updated.
