How fast do you ski/board? Do you want to know?
Ever wondered how fast you ski or board? Think it might be cool to know without a lot of hassle and expense?
We are developing a very cool speedometer for your ski or snowboard. We think we’re on to something, but we want your feedback.
We’ll give you a cool t-shirt just for taking the 5 minutes to complete a survey, PLUS you’ll be entered in a draw with a 1 in 200 chance to win an iPOD Nano. All you have to do is give us your honest feedback.
Only the first 200 responses will be accepted.
Sound pretty good? Then let’s get to it:

Let us know what you think!
Cheers.

Consent...
I am not getting paid to get people to fill in this survey. I am a skiier/boarder like you that is looking at making this device if enough people want it.
I'm just asking for oppinions. I have nothing to sell.
How and who do I get consent from?

Are you sure you're not re-inventing the wheel?digsnow wrote:Ever wondered how fast you ski or board? Think it might be cool to know without a lot of hassle and expense?

I have the Garmin Geko 201 - for speedsurfing.
I use it in combination with the excellent program GPSAR www.gpsactionreplay.com
But I took the GPS with me on the slopes last winter. Not only does it give you excellent information about your instantaneous speed.
In combination with GPSAR, you have all kinds of possibilities for analysis. Including acceleration, top-10 speeds for all kinds of intervals (2 second till nautical mile) etc etc
If you want to introduce or develop a new product, be sure you offer some added value over existing products...

MennoB - thanks for your comments. Very good stuff. That is a great unit, I have have tried it myself, but it does have some downsides not the least of which is price.MennoB wrote:Are you sure you're not re-inventing the wheel?digsnow wrote:Ever wondered how fast you ski or board? We would be looking to provide some features a GPS device just couldn't, but also would be looking to do at a fraction of the price. Sound interesting? I guess not for you because you already have a nice device. I unfortunately can't get too much into the feature details just yet as we are very early in the process and don't want to give away too much, but the device would be designed specifically for skiing and be focused on easy of use. No computer or engineering degree needed.
We're thinking many will find what we could provide, for the price, hard to resist. But again thanks, that's why we are asking here before we mortgage our lives away....

Nils tells me he will be posting the link back up for the survey, please take a few minutes to log your input officially - you get a cool shirt and a pretty good chance to win an iPod Nano too.
BTW: What is speedsurfing? Sounds like a blast.
Cheers,
Digsnow.
Here's the leading site for speedsurfing

And some photos, the first 2 taken at my home spot Strand Horst in the Netherlands. The last 2 were taken on famous speedsurfing spots in New Zealand.

Excellent speed!!
I have a pure slalom board 50 cm wide in the middle, 30 cm wide in the back footstrap but it can not take more than 6m And I need to sail with 7.5m.
anybody knows some shops in which I could bring the JP SX 116 2005 at good price?? It seems like a good slalom board and she can take 7.5 m sail.

We need your opinion...
So you'll see at the top of this post is a request for your opinion. Nils and I have sorted out that this is not spam, we are not selling anything we just want to know what you think.
He also pointed out that I should tell you a bit more about our situation and likely many would be interested in giving their feedback.
It's pretty simple really we, are ski and boarders like yourselves who too like speed. We have come across a way to make what we think is a pretty cool speedometer for skis and snowboards, but before jump right into make it we would like to see if anyone might be interested in the idea of a speedometer for skiing/snowboarding.
So to give your feedback if you could go to: http://www.ripfx.com/survey.php and spend the less than 5 minutes answering a few questions. For your time we will be sending everyone a free limited edition RipFX t-shirt and entering your name into a draw for an iPod Nano.
We are only taking 200 respondents to keep the odds pretty good for the draw, and we are getting closer to that number so NOW is a good time.
Thanks for your help!

Thanks to all those from Extremecarving who have given their input. I'll be posting with the results soon. Your feedback is appreciated, and interesting for sure.
But for now the survey is still open. We haven't quite hit that 200 number yet. So encourage your friends. And if you give them your email address to fill in the referred by field you get twice the chance at the iPOD.
Give us your input here: http://www.ripfx.com/survey.php

Hello Menno,
If you are an extemecarver and use the foretrex with "one second" interval, I'd like to know what is your lateral acceleration in extreme turns in GPSAR. A very laydown turn is supposed to require a huge centrifuge force.
Since I personnaly get only an ETREX with no interval setting, I can't really get it.
Yann.
