Binding for Swellpanik
Hi guys!
Upon buying new board from kafi i've stumbled upon the question as to which binding should i use...
should i go for moderate flex for surfy feel or for aluminum base for max response?
the board is 2012 sswellpanik magistral

Re: Binding for Swellpanik
surfy feel of course, has no use to get quick responses in the deep pow. you just have to move your (upper body) mass/weight, less comes out of your feet. just my 2 cents.

Beautiful board!
1) IBEX: moderate flex for surfy feel but also aluminum base for response; light; with 5 mm bails (good for every kind of boots, also AT boots); low profile.
2) F2 RACE TITANIUM: like Ibex but heavier and stiffer
3) F2 CARVE RS: plastic base, light and with moderate flex

Depending on what kind of open fields you ride, there is also great advantages or riding plates...when you go really fast, having a little bit more angle and less loose binding bring lots of precision and confidence..I personaly find ugly the body position with 0 angles especially on a long board..So plates ( not too stiff) are definitely an option on a swellpanik!

Sorry Nils, 0 angles (front and rear) with plates? And stance (how much)?nils wrote:Depending on what kind of open fields you ride, there is also great advantages or riding plates...when you go really fast, having a little bit more angle and less loose binding bring lots of precision and confidence..I personaly find ugly the body position with 0 angles especially on a long board..So plates ( not too stiff) are definitely an option on a swellpanik!

I ride my Pogo Shaman with Ibex and both DeeLuxe Lemans or Garmont AT Megalite (old model)

Mimi?
I mean its good to have some angle ( like 30/15) on a long swallow like the amok or the shaman..its more efficient when speeds increase than beeing sideways with zer0/zero settings ( also better looking, and less risks of doing skids like turns with the tail of the board waving left to right)...

No: Pietro! .... Mimi is my friend and we ride together in Alagna. He normally rides a Pogo Maverick 235 or a Winger 205; may be next season a new proto Shaman Splitboard.nils wrote:Mimi?

I agree your setting: on my Shaman (23,5 waist) I normally ride 33/48 (and 15/30 during big powder days), with Ibex (front flat and rear unicant) and AT or Deeluxe boots.
Next season I'd like to buy lighter AT boots like Dynafit TLT5 or DynaPDG.

Pietro!
Sorry for confusing you with crazy Mimi! So he got rid of his freesurf?
I still have to meet you guys there in Alagna..Mimi told me it was dream on earth!
I do the same as you on the amok..usually 45/30 and when it gets really deep powder back to 30/22-25..I'm still using my SB121 on the big days but the liners are dead and the shell a bit small, so its usually the .900 that I loose...I have tried with my ski tour boots ( salomon quest) but they are not comfy for snowboarding and a bit heavy...not sure i'll be able to purchase special boots for pow days now ( too much gear each time I go to the mountain...wife gets crazy)..

Re: Binding for Swellpanik

Alagna is for me a magic spot!
I love my Shaman but I know the Amok is a wonderful board too.
I agree, Salomon Quest is a good boot for freeride but a bit heavy and stiff for snowboarding; I like my old Garmont Megalite, modified to have more forward lean.
I hope to meet you in Alagna in future!
Ciao

My setup on SP

Re: Binding for Swellpanik
Guys, thanks for the help!
I will definitely ride with soft boots, just wonder which softboot binding will work best with the swell...I am going for some serious trip in himalayas next year so failure is not an option
i was considering drakes but they have aluminum baseplate and as far as i know aluminum is not that good because it causes stress points for the board....
am i right?
