Re: Oppdal CarvingCamp 2012
Hi everybody,
If I understand the offer correctly, one single room with one person from March 11 till March 16 will cost NOK 204, provided you buy a skipass for the same period. That is a real good offer. The hotel is in walking distance to the Hovden skilift, the most spectacular Oppdal slope, and the Hovden lift also provides easy access to the whole skiing/snowboarding area.

Tali, could you please avoid give this advice.tali wrote:The main idea is that in order not to damage your feet you should not use your board as a brake. Try to keep the board as high as possible in the air and slow the sliding down speed by your body.
sliding down without braking by the board is very dangerous habit.
steep slope close to ice - you have chances to slide down with acceleration.
if you have constant habit to put your board up - once upon a time you would critical lost time to realise it is wrong way to brake.
15-26 seconds
the first one after falling down - put board to snow and do anything to stop sliding.
no any damage of feet when you practice this skill regularly.
Re: Oppdal CarvingCamp 2012
I would say that it depends from various factors whatis correct thing:
- speed of rider
- steepness and angle of slope, ie does slope push you side of slope to trees etc if you slide
- surface, hard or soft or bumbs
- number of other riders below you
Then based on situation you either try to break, or let it just slide.
On slower speed it is always easier and safer to break

You are right. But if somebody train to always put board upward - he will use it automatically in dangerous situation.pokkis wrote: Then based on situation you either try to break, or let it just slide.
Later he start to think should he put board down to slope or go of slope away as is.

Sasha, what is wrong with Tali's advise? I think it's right to put the board up when you fall down.

Re: Oppdal CarvingCamp 2012
fall down ---> braking ---> sliding if you want
fall down ---> sliding ---> braking if it necessary
which way is more safe for your health when you do not have time/distance to look and think?
We can learn brake without pain so as we can lie down to snow without pain.
ps could you please split discussion on Oppdal and safety

If you do not have time/distance to look and think no matter which way you choose. It's unsafe anyway. Try to avoid falling down.Snegorez wrote:fall down ---> braking ---> sliding if you want

to Starikashka and Snegorez: Hi guys, we will be more than happy if you also start a thread about this topic in the Russian section of this forum.
As regards my advice, I commented on the pictures shown by mirekd to explain to him the sense of the particular movement. You both know better than me, that any exercise is used to develop some skill. And it is at the discretion of the rider, whether to use this skill or not.

Hi there,
is there a plan for this event or it's gonna be skipped due to bad weather or something?

Re: Oppdal CarvingCamp 2012
We have booked cabins and flight/boat tickets so no cancellation.
If weather is REALLY BAD, then we sit down in cabins and drink beer and watch carving films, BUT we will be there.
And if you take look at begining minutes of our 2009 film, that is not considered as bad weather, just normal riding day

Re: Oppdal CarvingCamp 2012
Weather conditions for the next week are promising with cold temperatures again:
http://www.yr.no/sted/Norge/Sør-Trøndel ... arsel.html
This winter there has been two avalanches close to the ski lifts, Vangslia and Ådalen, so there should be lots of snow. Look at the offer from NOR hotel for reasonable hotels stays.
For some reason the whole link to Yr.no will not appear but just past the address in your web reader to see.

Wish i would live 300 km from such a place![]()

Does anyone know the angle of this slope?
Wish I could come along to this. My boss at work said Norway would be a great place to go snowboarding! However, I would be a traitor to the cause turning up with non-Swoard and soft boots. It would be like committing a crime

Such fun-gr!
One more try-bk!

Re: Oppdal CarvingCamp 2012
That is not so steep: Vangslia Oppdal 30 degrees
Pretty much like LeCol in Zinal, just 3 times wider
This is same slope from bottom to upwards showing most of slope
http://www.ojankaivajat.org/gallery/alb ... gslia1.JPG
Here starting at 2:15 is also good sight for that slope
That film is in good quality here as one full set
http://pokkis.1g.fi/kuvat/2007/2007.avi
We like on very different boards, some with Swoard, most with others, main point is to have fun and make good turns.
Some even are carving with soft ones
