Val d'Isere?

Post by Al G » Wednesday 16 February 2005, 11:33

Couple of questions:

1) Any recommendations for nice carving runs in Val d'Isere/Tignes? - Didn't Buzzetto live there? Where did he ride?

2) Any shops there that can tune/wax my board when I am there?

Cheers

Hi Al G,

i dont know if Bozzetto lives there sorry and where he rides.

There are several shops where you could tune/wax your boards so dont worry.

In regards to the slopes recommendations i suggest in Tignes you go up to the Grand Motte Glacier up to 3200m and take the slope down. The slopes is very wide, normally not to crowded and snow is very good.

In Val d Isere you can go to the Val d Isere Glacier as well where you have very good slopes normally not to crowded.

Definetly i really like this ski resort very much and had always fun there to ride.

So enjoy your trip and have fun.

Val d'Isere - Tignes

Post by István » Wednesday 16 February 2005, 13:42

Good spot, actually that is 2 places together, Val d'Isere and Tignes. I'm not 100% sure, but as far as I remember Tignes were better.

You can buy a combined pass.

Cheers,

István

ps.: I could give you some general advice concerning French ski places, but many French members her would feel offended... :-)

the combined ski pass for Tignes and Val d'isere is called 'espace killy' ski pass if i remember well; you can check on their websites for prices(http://www.tignes.net & www.valdisere.com) -english ok- it's worth it but a ski pass for one resort is also enough, there are many slopes out there!
I forgot about Val d'Isere but I went to Tignes last month and didn't enjoy that much the slope from la grande motte :( because after a while, it's too cold (no sun) and at the time i went there, really too crowded for proper carving but i know many like it :wink: ; i prefered warming up on grattalut and ending on the uncrowded slalom slope i may say;

carving/racepistes

Post by Hans » Wednesday 16 February 2005, 20:10

I was there about six years ago. I remembered that I was doing just one piste for three days at a role in Tignes. It was near the train at the valley which go up. They used it for training the skiteams and often spraid it with water so you got a fine icy track. The piste near this one also was a fine carvepiste. I didn't remember the names of the pistes. May be I can get into it the next days.

Greets, Hans.

I guess that there should be more than enough piste to keep me amused and at speed. We are going in early March so the resport should be quieter than this week or Easter.

I have been there 2 times, and it is a paradise for any carver.

Of course the run on the Grande Motte glacier is nice, if only because it is 500 metres wide ;)
Especially if you combine it with the red run to the bottom of the subway; you then have 1500 metres (4500 feet) uninterrupted carving-dream

But there are even better runs than that. Here's my list of favorites:

Tignes
Grattalu; especially with the new fast 6pack
Col des Ves (when it's open)

Toviere area
The runs from Toviere in direction of la Daille

Val D'Isere, La Daille
-OK
-worldcup slalomrun
both are beautiful north-facing steep runs, meticulously groomed, between the trees on the lower part

Solaise area (Val)
-St Jacques

Pisaillas runs (extreme end of the area past Val d'Isere)
