As far as i can see they ride with truly different settings (beside the fact that they ain't "swoarding")

I'd guess they have a much wider stance... and maybe ??? heel lift?

Would these settings be involved with the fact that they "jump" so often?

IMO, their carve look really good, but the turn transition makes it loo kreally violent... and it woulb be more if it wasnt slowmotion...

anyways, another good movie... another i'll keep on my HD ;)

Yes their settings are different... but not for long because they are going to test SWOARD boards very soon at the Carving Session ;-)

Their technique is also different: it's the opposite of the push-pull technique. That's why:
- their legs are not extended in the middle of the turns
- they jump by extension from a turn to another.

On our Web site there is place for everyone, all styles and any good movie! :D

McFussel, a question: do you have heel lift or any canting? Hmm... :naughty: you know what we think about this!
Flat is the secret!

Hey, I like the :alien: Smileys here....best ist the one from Patrice for me ( :silly: ) Hehehe....

Well....our style is different....and yes, I am using a little heel lift - but it is possible without too. I´m going to remove it tomorrow  Its not of use...only for beginning.

I like the jumping in between...this makes it more :evil2: AND I LIKE THAT!!!

So I think it´s good if you see different styles :bravo: Because so you can combine and find your personal favour.

I was watching the other videos too  Cool filming, but I was wondering...one some the guys are sliding on the snow without having contact to the snow with the board. :alien: Is that Carving?? Hmmm.... :snooty: BUT: Looks different and they have fun - so its gooooood :pray2:

Back to work, I want to finish video without slo-mo....

HAVE FUN!!!!!

Jacques,
I will try to do these jumps this season.
I like doing those little hops too between transitions before I got to know EC.

When mixed with EC, the timing would have to be very accurate and even more challenging  with the followings steps

1) middle of turns with legs "fullly" extended
2) Coming into transitions by pulling the legs under
3) Then suddenly pushing hard with legs fully extended (again!!!!!!!! :wall: ) but this time to hop up vertically
4) By absorb the landinging, you "naturally" :clap2: set yourself in the perfect position for the next EC style carve

Do I get this right or am I totally off in the timing?

This year my plan is to continue to improve my EC, do little hops like our friend :silly: and mix it up with some fakie riding...

EC carves with little hops here and there, hops can turn into 180 air then ride fakie, then continue with some other EC turns... OK I better stop dreaming :silenced:

Right

Post by fivat » Wednesday 19 November 2003, 19:11

Yes yomama, you are right! The steps you describe are well explained!

We do sometimes those little hops... Not at every turn, but from time to time. It's a question of playing with the ground. When there is a bump at the end of the turn, it's a pleasure to use it to jump and change edge in the air!

Looking at other riders' videos is always beneficial
We will make more such transitions this season. Thank you McFussel! :D

In the movie Extremedreamer Jacques is already doing very little hops (using the Swoard dynamism):
look at the sequence from second 30 to second 37 (or in slow motion from second 38 to 1min01).

Jacques' hops can be much higher, and it will be nice to work on this. With bumps not damped, it's very impressive. And the rider gets a nice feeling when the edge touches again the snow and penetrates it strongly.

Yeah...it´s good to see how you ride yourself....

I see so much wrong things in my style....I have to work really hard on my transitions

But who says it is easy??? :wall:

I´m riding now for three years....so everthing takes it´s time!

Anyway....most important thing: HAVE FUN!!!

SlowMo Video Setup

Post by Ed » Wednesday 19 November 2003, 22:05

Hi

I am the guy with the blue jacket who can be seen in the begining of the video.

Regarding the setup questions:

- Lothar (helmet): Virus Stealth Ultimate; 54 cm stance, 60 degrees, big heel ift
- Alex (orange jacket): F2, approx. 52 stance; 60 degrees.
- Ed (blue jacket; begining of Video): Virus Black Death 2, 175 cm long, 15 cm wide, 70 degrees front and back, small heel lift; 52 cm stance.

Technique:

We were all posing a bit here and doing jump turns. And yes - that is our favourite style. But normal pushed turns (w/o jumping) or pulled turns are also possible (just not so spectacular). Video was taken at Silvretta Nova in Jan 2003 and the slope was good but not as perfect as some people think here.

Boards:

Yes - we wanna try the Swoard; especially after seing the videos which are pro. We also wanna see you guys riding on the slope (technique) and really wanna test ice grip (thats where narrow boards are usually better). We are currently all using Virus boards (Gladiator, Tantalus, Black Death and Cyborg). This weekend we could not get the hands on the boards but we will do so in Lech (Dec. 6/7).

By the way: we are riding in Stubai and Soelden coming weekend.

Enjoy

Ed.

Great video. Even better if you deinterlace it.

Post by neil_swingler » Wednesday 26 November 2003, 21:44

If you deinterlace your video before compressing you will get much
better quality for your megabytes.

Virtualdub is a good tool to edit, resize and deinterlace. It gives a very
high degree of control.

I was on Hintertux a few weeks ago (first time only with hardboots :) ) and I've also seen a lot of hardbooters. When I was in French Alps (ValThorens, Alpe d'Huez, La Plagne) hardbooters were so rare...

So Austria really looks the "Home of the hardbooters".

Mariusz

BTW What Austrian glaciers are the best places to carve (I mean moderate steep slopes without bumps) ?
