Ok guys I need to pick a place and your feedback is helpful
I would like pros and cons.. Im looking..obviously for some groom..
The place doesn't have to be big.. I won't have that much time and as usuall you find a good run..you stick with it..
limited crowds is a plus..
Time of year is Jan 18, 2008
Places that I can get deals on are
Arosa - don't care that its small and I can get hurt just as bad on intermediate runs
Saas Fee
Gstaad
Zermatt..
Any feed back would be helpful
Thanks
Shred

places
Hi, Shred
Saas fee - expensive, most of the pist not good for carvin', most of the runs are not very well prepared.
Gstaad - very expensive, exclusive, some groomers are suitable.
Zerrmatt/Breuil Cervinia - especially the Italian site is afordable and some nice long intermediate (too) easy blue carving runs. Zermatt is more expensive but some nice long (carve) runs are okay, red pists are really red over there, and some nice black runs too!!
Arosa - none opinion from me, never been there.
Greets, Hans.

Thanks Hans!
Thanks,, thats the input I need..
All are welcome..
Reason for the limited choice is that the deals I can get are more of the known places ..plus I have family in Switzerland in case something goes wrong..
Take care Hans

snow certainty
I agree with you Pokkis, but the mountains of Breuil en Zermatt have a high altitude and are very snowcertain early in the season.pokkis wrote:Anyway that is freaking early to go, in worst case only glaziers are on sómekind of shape![]()
Saas fee has also a very high altitude and mostly have no lack of snow.

Time of Travel?
Thats early... end of January is early? I guess thats different than my usual trip to Montana... end of Jan is prime.. cold and good hard pack groom.. sure you can go later..along with the rest of the crowds that show up.
That was my main reason for going at the end of January.. no kids on vacation yet and not a chance of rain!! or warm weather..
Is there a better time?????

Re: Time of Travel?
Think Pokkis is referring to the very bad winter we have now. There is little snow in whole Europe right now, except in the areas with a high altitude. Above lets say about the 1500m there is snow enough. Never had such a bad winter as this one. Vacations will be mainly in the early February in 2008 (carnaval).Shred Gruumer wrote:Thats early... end of January is early? Looking more like Arosa or an Italian spot
I think Saas Fee is off the list.. kinda already was off but on Bomber some people mentioned it..
I don't mind intermediate runs.. again I don't need steep to kill myself..plus I don't want to die there anyway... just nice carving and maybe some powder riding since I'll bring my MADD BX with me..
So if anyone has been to Arosa and has photos.. that would be great..
Also Val Gardena,, or Cervina too.
When should I go... I know this year has been bad for snow.. but Im still thinking last week of January to the first week of February..is that good?
Thanks,
shred

I was 2 weeks ago in Cervinia ant put a little report here :
viewtopic.php?t=2977
Great resort for carving. Not very steep, but slopes are wide (really wide !), uncrowded, and groomed every day. Due to the high (80% of the slopes are above 2500m), snow quality is good also for carving.
Some area in Zermatt are allowed for freeride.
If you have any question ...

Have you guys looked at our trip to Big Mountain Montana on Bomberonline.com called "Big Mountain Daily rub in" take a look at the photos and really tell me if I should pass on this for 2008 and go to Arosa or other..
Because thats what I would be doing I can usually only go to one vacation a year..
So now from what I hear I should go in late February..?
