Jacques has understood something very important, that should not pass unnoticed!
The whole discussion may appear complicated, so I post a new topic to focus on the following question:
Why set your bindings flat on the board?
Why avoid any canting pad?
Because the board bending during the laid turns already induces a canting under both feet.
A beginner, riding with a board which stays flat on the snow (no carving, only sliding) may feel uncomfortable. But a carver, doing EC turns, should note rapidly that no pads works better. The board bending puts the knees together.
