Concave base

Post by István » Thursday 19 April 2007, 17:37

Just a general question: there is so much talk on BomberOnline on boards that have a concave base that it makes me believe that there is something wrong on that continent.....

I never had a concave board and never even seen one.

Anyone of you expereinced anything like this? Is this a production issue? Is this a result of a misuse?

Damn, I always forget what is concave and what is convex () or )(.

I probably could imagine if they talk about concarve boards.

concave bases

Post by nils » Thursday 19 April 2007, 18:01

It happens, even with the best brands...
it is one on of the most difficult thing to do when making a snowboard ( the flat base)
a small concave within 1 mm is no issue for riding, when it becomes too deep, it can lead to edge hooking and hard to release from turns board...The worst is a board that gets concave or twist during its riding life.

The problem with concave base is they are difficult or impossible to grind properly..

If you ran base of board properly with stone, then you really can see when base is flat. Running it with sandbelt does not show anything normally. Most of boards are not really perfectly flat, really.

Unreal...checking your link I ended up finding the new baby from POGO: the 230cm Maverick (swallow tail) for just 1979€... I guess our conversation about expensive producers can be viewed on a totally different light now...

The one you have mentioned here is a very rare board which is build in very small quantities. Can't remember a swallow tail that long from another brand and in this quality.

By the way:
POGO can in no way be compared to other boardmakers. Those boards are among the best build quality, most durable boards in the world money can buy (just my 2 cents). The other POGOboards in the productionline are under the € 1.000,--.

We are getting far from the original topic, but 2 weeks ago in Kaprun I saw a pair of skis for EUR 45,000..... no kidding.... it had diamonds on it..... 5 pairs were prepared altogether and that was the only pair in Austria..... don't even remember the brand.... now that is reall crazy...

I also saw that Paris Hilton spent their a couple of days in October 2006, maybe it was taken there for her.....

Yeah, they had some skis displayed in the magazine of the hotel I worked in this winter. Lacroix with diamonds, Prada, Chanel skis (no kidding). No prices displayed. It's strange because those people usually choose what is most expensive...

Best precaution against concave base is loosening your binding screws before waxing and when storing in summer.
I had some probs too with concave board (it was not concave at all temperatures)
