I just wanted to ask what's the best resort for carving in south Austria (near Slovenia), e.g. Badkleinkirchheim, Nassfeld, Gerlitzen... ?
Thanks in advance

i´m from Villach and know most of the areas here.
For my opinion - i´m really sorry to say this - my personal favorit is in Tarvisio (ITA) to Monte Lussari (with cable car) - it is very steep and wide. Best for carving.
Nearest to the boarded is Nassfeld - also not bad, you find everything you want.
Bad Kleinkirchheim - is for snowboarding i little bit difficult because you have many connection road between the slopes.
Gerlitzen - is my allday area - but it is very easy at the end, but could be ok for one day.
If you are here anywhere in the area - just let me know.
Ciao

Re: Carving in South Austria
Hi!
in fact I'm not looking for something too steep but I like wide slopes anyway. So would Nassfeld or Bad be OK for what I want? Or something else?
I'm planning to go somewher March 4.-7. so I think Gerlitzen would be too small, though I hear there are nice slopes for carving there.
Thanks
P.S. I'm in Soelden 11.-18. March so if anybody's there let me know.

Gerlitzen is a lovely place, but many times too windy and practically it is one good long run.
Nassfeld is a large and complex place, but due to tha fact that its not too high (2000 m) most of the slopes are short (except a 8 km boring run) and steepness, inclination varies. I could not find anything for EC.
Möltall has good runs, but its a glacier hence many times there is bad weather.
Obertauern is also close, its a nice place.
Kindest,
István

So as I see, there are good and bad sides in all the places, but would you suggest one? I mean, some places have bad weather, but what about the slopes? And what does "a nice place" mean?
I need a place to go for 4 days that has nice wide and not too steep runs for carving and like more than 30km of runs.
Thanks again

Nassfeld
Last week I was in Nassfeld. Theoretically a very good area, a lot of wide slopes with various steepness, beautiful landscape. The slopes are not so long but I wouldn't say that they are short. I had a lot of slopes that were too steep for me - perhaps good for EC that I am not able to do currently. What I disliked was the quality of snow: until 10 o'clock it was perfect, between 10 and 11 it was good, between 11 and 13 it begun to go wrong , after 13 it was totally unusable apart from some blue slopes (that I really liked for "low speed carving":-). Other problem was the too many skiers and boarders on the slopes. I cannot remember such a place: after 11 hour it was hard to find a nearly empty section for carving (apart from the short blue slopes). Perhaps there is a connection between the quality of snow and the amount of skiers/boarders after 11 hour. I don't know whether it is always so or we had special bad circumstances last week.
