Mountain Slope Point .951 / Spring question

Hi,

Sorry if this has already been discussed here. I have a question related to the new Mountain Slope Point .951 boot / spring settings: what are the optimal settings for a nice, comfy forward lean? I'm around 95 kg, and have 20+ yrs riding experience on various boards and boots.

More news this winter when the Forum will be more active and with more people posting. There is no simple answer for now, and it depends so much on the riders (height, weight, ride style, ride taste, type of slopes, etc.). At the moment, we can tell you that we are not satisfied and don't reach what we had with the famous Northwave .900 boot. Independently from the springs, there are also various problems.

@Swoard team moderator: sorry, I have not been following the forum lately.

@Jax: no, I'm riding usually narrower boards (e.g.: Virus Berserker II) so I have a 6 degrees heel lift / cant disc under the rear binding (TD2) and a 3 degrees disc under the front to compensate and to have a balanced stance. Works like a charm with a T700+BTS, and also works fine with the new .951, but my first impression is that I could use a bit more / easier movement in the forward lean. Most probably the reason is that the T700 is a softer boot and it bends under my weight / style and I got used to it. On the other hand that softness / deformation of the T700 also makes force transmission less precise, so I'm inclined to work on the .951 settings, I just thought some of you might have had the same situation.

ps.: I already replaced the original strap with a booster strap that in my opinion serves the purpose much better - IMHO rigid straps or velcros hinder the foward lean, whereas the booster allows / controls forward lean in a nice but progressive way. Funny that I've been using them for the last 10yrs and now I see that for the last one-two seasons even Deeluxe sells their boots with it.....

The main thing is that the .951 are very stiff laterally so you will enjoy with narrow boards.
I use less lift, on the F2 race titanium the big lift under the back foot which is about 3° and a small lift under the front foot about 1° or 2°.
I have a good feeling inclining the front cuff few degrees and the back almost upright.

The new .951 in my opinion are in no comparison to the old 900 series.

Very stiff lateral and forward. If you like that a lot, these boots are for you.

Since I know you are a very powerful rider, may be they will suit you.

I didn't like this very stiff boot. Not even with high stance angles (78/73). No fluidity at all. Stay with my UPZ11 with soft tongue.

Kinda unusual spring System....

@Hans: I'm getting old, too.... would prefer some softness in the boot, too. The new .951 are like Robocop's shoes - they only move in the direction and to the extent it was designed.

After a few days of riding we became friends, but I can tell you, every millimeter of setting (forward lean, pre-load, etc.) counts big time. If the setting is not 100% in sync with your biometrics and style, you'll notice immediately as simply you'll become a beginner on the slope immediately in terms of carving skills.....

So my judgement after a few days if riding: great boot, but always keep a wrench and a hex-key in your pocket, so that you can fine-tune it during riding. Also, I replced the original velcro with a booster-strap, and replaced the liner with a one size smaller UPZ liner that is a better fit for me.

Anyone experimented with modified / longer spring system on NW .951? Would like to hear reviews, or even buy a kit if someone is selling, so that I can test myself.
