Indy for this Price? Y/N

Post by bowen » Tuesday 4 May 2004, 13:02

Hi,

I want to buy for me for certain a hard boot for the next season!

Now i have the possibility to get a deeluxe indy, new and with warranty from a fiend in a big store in munich, for 200-250 Euro

There are some criticism points at this boot! So should i take it or not? The choice anyway isn't so gigantic.

Please, give me an objektiv answer, wether the boot is ok for this price.

Thanx
Der Bowen

Indy, specially with thermofit inner boot, is great boot specially colorwise, it looks so nice in pics  and price quoted for you is not bad, it is no hammer deal but quite good. I like my boots, only thing missing is to have also walking mode, but hey, "these boots are not made for walking" :P
But please prepare to change spring to softer one for more comfy carving, it will be like 20 euros or so depending where you get them

First of all try them on, if you don't like the fit then there is nothing to think about.
Otherwis it's a great boot, payed quite a bit more fo mine but they're worth it

You can get springs locally propable anywhere in world just take look of your local yellow pages etc.
Springs needed here are no rocket science
You just need to define inner dia, outer dia, length of spring, required force and material
Rest of these is easy to measure from existing springs.
Some freedom is allowed here.
When selecting softer spring you usually select also longer spring.
Force is something which is usually adjusted mainly/partially with thickness of spring material.
As material i've used stainless steel  but normal spring steel goes also well.
Here are my spring numbers but please note that i prefer quite soft spring due weak muscles
  • Spring__ ID__OD__wire dia__length__force
    origin1__12___20__4_______ 45_____? my quess 900N or more
origin2__13___20__3.5______45_____? my quess 700N or more
    mycur __13___18__2.5______61_____340N

Good price! Good boots! I'd go for it.

Very stiff, but I believe a precise build-up.

I'm also interested in the spring-change, so Pokkis thx for the specs, I'll get them manufactured.

Cheers,

István

SPRINGS

Post by Marc Andre Panet-Raymond » Thursday 28 October 2004, 22:06

Pokkis,

Thanks for those dimensions you just made my day, well... the Boston Red Sox made my day, but you were a close second. Any way I'll assume mm were the rule. And did you have a guage or steel reference of the quality of the spring material or do you think most any type would do?

Again thank you

As mentioned above, my springs are steinless steel.
DIN 2098 Stenless, material SS 2331-06 (DIN 17224)

But only cause they were available in stainless and i tried to avoid any rusting
With these prices, friend of mine paid of standard material spring 4 euros, one can by more and switch if they start to rust :)

springs

Pokkis thanks for the Din #. I appreciate it. I haven't used these new Indys of mine but based upon what I'm reading here I'll need the softer spring set up that you have. That coupled with some other dampening in the pads under the TD's should help.

Thanks again,
