Step ins and extreme carving

Post by dauler » Saturday 7 March 2009, 7:51

Hi All,

I have been a hard booter since the beginning days of Nerva and the Burton Alp. I just bought a Donek custom hybrid Blade/Axxess so that I can extreme carve groomers and go off piste. I am trying to set up the board for extreme carving and have several binding and boot options. I have bomber step ins and regular TD 1's as well as burton carriers and have raichle sb 224's with intec heels and sb 121's with regular heels. I have tried the step ins but have read that they are too stiff for extreme carving. I also understand that the carriers are prone to breakage not to mention the built in cants which I understand is not preferable. What would be the best configuration for extreme carving? Should I use the sb 121's with the bomber td 1's, raichle 224's with step ins, or can I use the sb 224's with the intec heels on my regular td 1's. I have gotten rid of the regular heels with the 224's but am wondering if it is okay to use the intec heels with the regular td 1's so if I use the 224's I need to keep the intec heels unless someone knows where I can buy regular heel replacements. I can do full laid out frontside turns in all set ups but can't seem to get the heel side turns laid out. Is it ok to use intec heels with regular TD 1's. My concern is that the pins may rub against the heel bail. It seems that they clip in fine without any interference but wanted to see if anyone out there has tried this. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

I use my DeeLuxe Suzuka with BTS and Intec heels in the normal TD1.
No problems.
But even the best setup will not solve your problems with the backside.

Alexis can make a good business :-)

Man, you better to shoot yourself and compare with Patrice video frame by frame - this is only way to solve your heelside problem..just repeat what he is doing..Binding not the issue, but maybe board..but i can`t say for sure as i`m not tested it.
i`m learning

Hi
Basically you are trying to find:
- lateral flex: this you will not find with step in system ( so avoid it)
- reduced boot overhang: shortest boot wins ( SB121 are too long but great for freeriding in hardboots)
