On one of the old threads regarding gloves, someone here recommended Burton mittens that had "SNAP" written on the thumb.
I followed that recommendation and those Burton mittens work great. The mitten has fewer seams to rip and they are very warm. Riding at Mammoth and the local mountains of Southern Ca, I usually don't need to wear the glove inserts that came with the Burton mittens.
For preventive maintenance, I did put Shoe Goo on the seam that goes around finger tips and thumb. So far, 25+ days of riding with the Burton mittens and no problems.

gloves and durability? you can't reconcile these two things!
for me only Sikaflex works, usually I apply a new layer every week and my Snowlife gloves last a season. An other advantage of Sikaflex, it glides better on the snow than normal glove materials. Ok, it doesn't look great and smells like a chemical plant, but it works. Have to shot a picture!
