Even the middle slope had some fresh powdery snow. (however, there appeared some old ice blocks covered, thats why you see us falling down on one of the vids).
...yes but that applies only for first two runs until you get your ideal course...
So true!
We got simmilar great conditions two weeks after in Sumava after several bad years...
I must admit, we are lucky the last 5 years. Good conditions during end of january. Christmas and end of february were mostly horrible.

Now for 28 years in Krknose, every year. It will be 25th time in Cerny Dul next year. Always around 3 or 4th week of january.
That clearly explains your knowledge of Krkonose! I must say having your experience I will probably end up at Cerny Dul also.

Looks like we can get some coffee and carving together next year..
It might be great to see other sole mates somwhere. It is 4 hours drive for me :( so it needs to be planned in advance. But let's see what next year brings us.

I think for you it must be nice to see how country is changing. Hopefully for good!

It is (on my fastests) 9,5 hours drive, when weather and road conditions are nice.
20 years ago, it was with a minimum of 11 hours drive, and some 150km longer. New and better roads in Germany and on the border with poland/czech have made the journy better and better.
20 years ago, it was sometimes 15 hours drive. Using snowchains from Liberec to Vrchlabi, via Tanvald. Using your car, driving up to Cerny Dul and Janske was problematic due to snow conditions on the road. You could easily ski from piste to appartment over the road.

I would be up for an EC meeting in Cerny Dul over a WE next year ;) Hopefully, my level will allow

It's great indeed to benefit from your experience get!em ;)

May I ask what first brought you to this region 28 years ago ? :) It seems to me there are other ski resorts that'd be closer for you ? Great story about Holandska ! ;)

I spent a week in Destne v Orlicky Horach in February and briefly met some dutch there, same "profile" as you but who had "only" been coming for 15 years or so :D

Someone in Czech Republic at the moment?

First time we just did an experiment. First time skiing in Sklarska Poreba and Karpacz. Just after the wall went down. We already visited Czech in summer once around that year.
After that we kept going. Harrachov, Rokytnice, Spindleruv for several years, and then we bought a small house in Cerny Dul.

I have seen it building up form a dusty small mining village, into a touristic skiing resort together with Janske Lazne now.

First time it was two towing lifts, one for children, one for experienced. That was the U Lomu.
Now with one modern chairlift, a second hand Austrian chairlift and some additional towing it is a paradise when quiet. Snow is perfect and keeps perfect into late afternoon when it is below zero. Even when snowing.
In Janske it is just the other way around, so busy, and when snowing, the pistes get horrible for snowboarding within an hour.

Cerny dul was taken over by Dutch people between 98 and 2009. When Holliday’s where in Netherlands, Cerny dul tourists vs inhabitants was 2:1. Totally taking over with fireworks , discos etc. those times are over now. Mainly Russian and Poland are dominating now in winter season. Especially because the northern krknose gets less snow last years. Even this year it was green in the Polish side. When south it had 1+meters snow.

See some photos from Snezka this year on my website:

Nice video and cool pictures ! :bravo:

Have you tried doing the same but with the camera turned towards you ? I find that it might give the viewer more insight into the carving experience than having the camera facing forward....at least, this is what I'm planning to do with my GoPro 8)

Great story, thanks for sharing ! You have witnessed the region transform over the years, it must be a huge change from back then !

Sure, we can try and organize something over the WE.

Huuska and I are going to the Hintertux SDT together next week, we’ll see if we are not too rusty

No snow for the moment here but the temperatures have gone down and I can see the snow guns are already working in some resorts...

After the corona years I finally go for carving again in Czech. I will be in Cerny Dul from 7 to 20th January and bring my Dual2 and Gen4

Never had the chance to fully do the Extreme carving moves, but enjoy the learning experience of it learning myself.

Maybe anyone else in the area?

Haha, thanks, but for me it is the other way around: live in Netherlands and travel to Czech.

And with 2 young children and a moving planned my agenda is packed.
