Zinal ECS 2019: snow conditions

Post by pokkis » Friday 4 January 2019, 13:55

Webcams show that all slopes are open, but it looks at in general snow coverage is quite thin.
Any news are there still some stones visible in LeCol and Barth?
Anyway time enough to get plenty white stuff before session :bravo:

No no, the snow coverage is not so thin. No stones on the slopes above 2500m (except 2 if we counted well ;-)). I'm there with 3-4 other extremecarvers. 8)

Le Col is just perfect. In November they have made artificial snow (with guns which have been removed since then), and a lot of fresh snow has covered it on mid-December.
Barthélémy is fantastic since December 26. This is really seldom that this slope (with 100% natural snow) is open so early. Usually it is more on mid-January, or 3 days before the ExtremeCarving Session

 Thus the snow conditions are great for the 16th ExtremeCarving Session (Jan 26-27-28, 2019). Details coming soon, packages already available here.

In resorts below 2500m, in West Switzerland and France, the conditions are catastrophic because of rain during Christmas. There is grass, or very bad ice which was formed with the rain. :?

In Pyrenees (south of France), it's even more catastrophic because there is no snow and the high temperatures prevented the making of artificial snow! :o Probably we will have to cancel the session of the Swoard Demo Tour in Peyragudes (Jan 12-13, 2019) as this resort could be closed or limited.

Another good news:

Le Col, the famous slope which is reserved for us in the mornings for the ExtremeCarving Session (Jan 26-27-28, 2019), is now much wider! They worked on this during summer. :bravo:

The red slope below the chairlift is also wider. :D

No ski race, nothing else is planned during the Swoard event. 8)

Now let's just cross the fingers for good sun. But we usually have good chance in this sunniest area of Switzerland. :D

I can only confirm what Patrice said.
Very good conditions in Zinal and other high resorts (e.g in Italy) compared to what we have currently here in France

Going there again for the week end to find good slopes and good snow :bravo:
Will keep you posted!

And snow forecast looks good for mid next week to deliver fresh snow for the ECS :clap2:

Enjoy the snow and the 2019 ECS, I am envious as I can not attend this year, work schedule is preventing to once again cross the atlantic and join EC paradise.

Cheers,
