[EC-approved areas]

Post by MennoB » Thursday 17 March 2005, 14:10

I take the initiative to start a thread about resorts and areas that are good for EC.

Proposed format

Resort - Country
Description what slopes are good for EC and why

*******************

Hintertux - Austria
I have been here from 5-12 march 2005. Stayed in Lanersbach. This was my first stay in Austria in the last 10 years, normally France.

Eggalm, Rastkogl area
This area is nothing special for EC. Slopes are short, not steep enough, and too crowded for EC. Slope maintenance is so-so.

Penken area (above Mayrhofen).
This area is also not good for EC. mostly very short (300 heightmeters) and extremely busy slopes. Lift capacity often much too large for slope.
There are however 2 good slopes for EC: the best is the rred "Katzenmoos" piste. This has 650 heightmeters, is wide. It is also quiet, because a bit off the beaten track. It is served by an old fixed 2seater chair. Hopefully this stays this way.
The second good one is the black piste from Schneekar. Served by fast 6seater. Too steep for most people so quiet. 600 heightmeters.

Hintertux glacier
This is IMO an area that offers a lot for EC. First of all slope maintenance is very good. Second, slope gradient is pretty steep for a glacier. Even in summer 600 heightmeters served by a Funitel. And this slope is 80% same gradient.

I had the best time on slope 8, next to the "Gefrorene wandspitze" tow lifts.
Only 200 heightmeters. But perfect gradient, constant from top till bottom. This one is good in summer too!
Extremely good piste preparation. Quiet.
A picture of these slopes (it's on the ohter side of the valley)

Tignes - France

One of the best slopes for EC I ever saw: the black slalom piste towards "La Daille" (part of Val d'Isere).
Perfectly groomed slope. Good snow, grippy but firm. Steep. Wide. Quiet.

A Wiki would be a good way to build this kind of database
