wow
katsu, it seems from the picture there was a defect in the bolt ( crack from a bubble in the metal could cause the break)
contact bomber and they will send you new parts!
things break, even if you build strong! its life, and we cannot ride with 50 kilos os steel bindings so that they do not break!
We never had this problem, only thing broke is the bails but now with titanium or special custom steel we have no more issues..

in my opinion ,
screw break is caused by 'leverage' or 'fatigue crack' .
this screw is not 'true screw'.
a lot of screw is tighten vertical direction , generally.
but this screw receive power from the side.
It's designed like a 'Peg' .
This 'Peg' breaks easily, 'leverrage' effect from strong bail.

Series of screw trouble
After few weeks , Bomber send me a new heel block and screw and spring under warranty.
But , same trouble happend in another country toay.

A lot of people enjoy snowboarding with Bomber bindings.
(It is bad news for them...Please listen to what I have to say without taking offense)
I think it is abnormal.
Can you trust your TD2 ?
It is inportant a series of screw trouble.

Fatigue
Yes it seems like a fatigue crack; however this crack initiated on a imperfection in the material. Otherwise it would be almost impossible to break it by either simple tension or even by fatique.
I made once a survey in scanning electron microscope on Burton bails that I broke and it was clearly a defect in the material, more precisely in the surface treatment (too rough surface).

also something to notice...>
We've noticed two recent board brakes ( one swoard 2D, one Virus wide EC custom), inserts stripped through the woodcore and topsheet using OS2... seems the base disc ( inner disc) is too small for the leverage wide boards put on them in those particular cases. OS2 is very high on the board, and the leverage is particulary noticable....
I think both TD2 and OS2 bindings are put under stress they are not designed for when used on wide EC boards...and power / heavy riders should be aware that the stress that is put into the bindings in EC is much more lateral than what racing puts on the bindings. We have had cases of bent bails on both, and some nuts like this one cracking.. it means one should always verify if the binding is in good shape, nuts tighten, bails not weaken etc before going out for EC on a EC board...Fin just posted a long answer on the subject, explaining that if the bolt gets loose by a few mm, it will not resist and break: tighten them bolts !!, and verify it often !
This said, i'm pretty happy with my Ti TD2 with the softer yellow ring...

I am the unlucky that broke the shoulder bolt on a TD2..... this binding is like 2 yrs old, so the bolts are from an older batch.
On the Bomber forum there are several similiar reports.
Nils, thanks again for the sparepart, and also big thanks to Antoine in Olyimpic Sports who managed to drill out the broken piece...

Does it mean that we should go back to the more traditional bindings such as F2 Race Titaniums? I have both TD2 with bails that stretched and finally broke (bought new titaniums from Bomber) and F2 Race Titanium that works fine. I used my F2s during the Zinal session. Personally I cannot feel any big difference between these bindings, but the TD2 looks cool. But safety is more important.

well
Harald i wouldn's say that: i am now using the Ti bails and after bending a little they are now solid and not bending anymore...so switching to F2 might not be the answer. I like the look, strength, suspension on my TD2.
I'm amazed that a youngster like you could break TD2 bails!!!! ( for everyone 's info, Harald is a teenage in his 60's!).

Broken Ti Bails
Hey Harald
I wish I had better news for you, I have broken a set of TD2 Ti bails. I think they MAY have lasted a bit longer than the standard steel bails.
I am at the point where I assume every bail will break. I make sure that the front binding has the newest bails as it is easier to control the board if the back binding breaks rather than the front.
Bomber has been excellent, they replaced my broken bails free of charge!
