Patching up board nose?

Post by qowah » Tuesday 28 December 2010, 4:41

Was knocked down today by a boarder going too fast in a straight line. :(

Here's a couple of pics of what my Dual's nose looks like, post-crash. I wonder if there's anything clever I can do with it to fix it up a bit, other than patching it up with some glue/epoxy?

After a skier had tried to devide the nose of my swoard into two pieces, I can tell you, a tip protector is worth it´s price.
Not an optical highlight, but very helpful.

I would go to a shop and ask for professional help. Prevends of disappointments.

qowah : the defect seems not very important. You can easily repair it using some Araldite (blue one).

Use these for several years on the tip of my board. Flexible rubber. Never come off: http://www.surfcohawaii.com/PhotoGaller ... =NG%2DTAIL

I absolutely agree. Well done, the damage can disappear, I made it several time with my boards. Tip protectors: if made of rubber too soft for hard impacts, if made of hard plastic are not nice adn easy to be lost. some screw them on the board, horrible. Imho

On the opposite, yes this board from another brand have a huge damage. Crash with a large stone?
Being out of running lenght an attempt by a serious and expert snowshop guy can be pherahs done, but I don't know in the future what will happen with vibrations and even small impact with snow surface. For sure time and then money will be required.
Imho

P.s. for sure with an hard impact like this - that broke the metal edge - a plastic tip protector would have been useless

For example
Nitro Torque (bx hard and soft), damage heelside under front binding by a rock going off-piste.
Before:

(before second definitive repair, before the first the edge was even more knocked up)
After:

(little too much epoxy resin, the result was a little ticker than original)
All homemade with simple non professional tools

if you comment my picture - board was cut by ski.

I made a laydown backside turn and board meet with ski belong to little girl going straight down.

It was fixed by the guy in Moscow who are specialized in heavily damaged snowboards.Board now ok but looks not the same :-)

What! A little skiing girl made this? Did the little girl have a serious parent to pay you the damage or you also had to give her your excuses?
Good for the work by the snoshop.
About the topic, if a little girl can make a huge damage like this, I don't think that an added tip protector can help for serious impacts.
My poor opinion, you can disagree.

Skis have edges. They are fixed a little by weight of girl. So the ski worked like knife. The size of damage is depends on the weight and speed of rider.

Luckily she was not injured and i did not seek for her parents to pay for the damage despite she was above me and by rules can be considered as guilty for the incident. She was poorly dressed.

Sorry for starting the thread and disappearing. The board was patched up very nicely with some epoxy.

But I guess, it wasn't my luckiest board, see the pic below. Only lasted a month. :(

Really sorry about it! Landing a(n unwanted) jump? The only thing I can tell is : "shit happens"!
I remember that all my friend broke then same way their Nitro Supernaturals - a fantastic freeride board from 2002 - in the same way, only mine and the one owned by a friend is still alive and perfectly in shape.
