What stiffness do you recommend

Post by zmurf » Saturday 7 February 2009, 19:55

Hi

I'm considering buying a Swoard board. The length is now question since I'm 180cm and got quite big feet (my boots is 31.2cm in length), so the choose will be the 175 board. But I'm not sure what stiffness I should buy.

I weigh approximately 75kg, so according to the board selection page I should chose a 175S or a 175M. But I ride quite fast and hard, and have pretty strong legs, so the question is if I will manage a 175H board.

How much harder is the 175H then the 175M?

180cm

According to your length and weight a 168 H would be suitable for you.
I am also 180cm and weigh 87kgs. I have also ridden a 168 Hard for 4 seasons. And that's a rather stiff board (1st gen). Just ask the Swoardguys before you order. If you consider a 175, than it's certainly no 175 H, you can't even get that thing around.....

What's the mondo size of your boots?

I'm just afraid that the 168 will be to narrow for my boots. I could buy some more modern and slimmer boots and I will maybe go down under 30.4cm in length... but I don't really want to buy new boots.

I been riding my friends board that is 178 in length (he is 197cm), and had no problem carving or turning that one around (But it needs quite a long turn :) ). So I'm not really afraid of the length.
But as you say the stiffness of the board may be to much on a 175H, so I will probably have some problems making it carve correctly?

It would have been really nice to test the boards before buying... But there is no resellers of Swoard boards in Sweden. :(

I'm not really sure what "mondo size" is. But they say EU 44 on the inside and on the back it says 28.5

175

Okay the 175 it will be according your mondosize. According the swoardchoicepage you should choose a S-flex. If you will be putting a little more weight in you can go to a M. Don't overestimate yourself. The flex will soon be too hard. You have to push rather hard if you are a 180cm height and you will have a 175. That's a long board for your length to get around the corner.

168 works well with 28.5 Mondo. For your weight, M flex is a good option.
If you like fast carving, you can choose 168H

It's settled then... I will go for either a 168H or a 175M (since I believe I need a harder board since I'm quite strong in my legs and ride quite hard)... I just have to decide if I want to be able to turn easier and risk to put my toes/heals in the snow, or if I will have a harder time turning. Not a easy chose...

Thanks anyway... you been really helpful. :D

Arnaud do you think so (about the 168 it is)? A mondo 28,5 is a 29 mondo shell. I had a 27 mondo on a 168 Hard and I just could set the angles 53/48. I think you will be around 60/55 with a 29 mondo? What do you think?

Depends of the shoe brand. For Head, Mondo 28 - 28.5 have the same shell.
I started on Swoard some years ago with Raichle 124 - mondo 28.5 and it was OK on 168H. Sole length was 313 mm (written on the shell).
Using now Stratos mondo 28 (which are a bit shorter) my angles are 46/47° rear and 54/55° front.
