Torsional Stiffness

Post by NateW » Friday 3 January 2003, 8:18

Is there such thing as too much torsional stiffness? What happens when the board is too stiff in torsion? What happens when the board is not stiff enough?

Just wondering about board design stuff...

Thanks!

I'll be able to tell you in a month or so. I am currently building a snowboard that will have extremely high torsional stiffness.

Nate:
Sean from Donek will tell you in 3 seconds flat that he thinks torsional stiffness is, if not the most important factor, one of the top factors in building a good carving board. He has done a fair bit of thinking on this matter and could probably answer this question with a rigorous, scientific and practical approach. He's great to talk with and schooled well on the topic. In addition to the many excellent thoughts I'm sure you'll get here, you should talk with him as well. smartin@donek.com.

To carve, or not to carve.... It's not a question.
