Binding setup question

Post by 5_against_1 » Wednesday 15 February 2017, 13:30

Hi all,

New Swoard owner here (168H Gen4). I have a quick question regarding the binding setup. I figured out my stance width with the help of other forum threads but I have some question about the which holes to choose in the board (49 to 50 cm).

When setting up your bindings, do you start with the most inwards holes and then work your way outwards until you have the right width?
I've also read (I think anyways) that your stance needs to be centered in the middle of the board as much as possible. Is this true? The reason I'm asking is that is appears the mounting holes aren't perfectly centered with the board length. (i.e. the middle holes of the rear binding are closer to the tail than the middle front holes are from the nose) So given that observation, do you favor the front binding when adjusting stance width? What I mean is: say you want to add 2cm to your stance, would you move you front binding 2cm to be more "centered" or move each binding by 1cm?

Sorry if this has already been answered in another thread, couldn't find it.

Thanks,

Hi,

Don't worry, the holes are centered. It's just that the center is not the middle of the overall board length but the middle of the effective edge length. The nose being longer than the tail, the rear holes are closer to the tail.
On a 168, to set 49-50 cm of stance, use the central inserts.

Oh! Totally makes sense now.

Now, final question. If I use the center 4x4 holes on each binding and I'd like an extra 1cm, would you favor moving the front binding by 1cm or the rear binding? (maybe +/- 1cm doesn't matter) The reason I'm asking is I plan on trying 49cm, 50cm, and 51cm so see which width feels better. I'm 5'11" (180cm) which gives 51.43cm stance (using the divide by 3.5 formula) and 50.70 (using the 3.55 formula suggested by Patrice I believe). BUT... I also have a fairly long neck so my shoulder height (and leg proportion) might tell a different story. So I'd like to also try 49cm. hahahah

Move front binding 0.5 cm forward and rear binding 0.5 cm backward to remain centered !
Higher stance give more power during the turns and more stability.
Too high stance may cause pain in the knees

For 180cm, I think that 50-51 cm is ok
(personally I'm 174 and use 50cm)
