My OEM .900 liners from Northwave beeing at the end of their lives, I have decided to change for an injected liner ( total custom fit). I already had Injected liners in my SB121, the "Comp" model from Sidas, but have decided this time to downgrade the performance for a more comfortable liner model, the Transfoam. The "Comp" is too stiff for freecarving and freeriding ( basically its stiff and so tight you need to open the buckles after each slope because of overblood pressure in the feet that is very painfull ( you can see worldcup ski riders often do the same for this reason when they finish the races). I also tried few years ago a thermo liner and was deceived by the fit and how long they last. ( the price diff. between the two solutions is also not so big, around 90-100 euros ( injected transfoam + custom soles = 270 euros))
I have contacted many shops in Lyon, but there is only one specialist left able to do this, and orthopedist specialist with many years of work at Sidas ( better do this with a guy that done lots of them, rather than shop clerc that do it 3 times per season...)
I'll publish feedback on the experience, which i can only praise for having done it already, for those that really like custom fitted boots...Injection is scheduled on the 2d of march, wait for info .
I have information from Sidas that they are working on a bigger line of custom liners, from full competition to freeride for next year ( 5 models instead of 3)...it will be interesting to see what they come out with.
Nils,
last year i bought a Sidas injected liner in France right after the Geneva boarder.
The guy has a small shop and had many years experience in custom liners as he supported some ski teams in the past.
Lyon to Geneva is not far away so this might be an option for you as well.
Please check the details and background of the guy here:
Tommaso,
Yes i've heard of this guy, too far away ( the one in Lyon is like 10 mins with the Vespa)..i think the one in Lyon is the best specialist around..others are near where ski teams are...There is also good shop in Chamonix near the aiguille lift that does good job but a bit expensive...and the Sidas headquarters in Voiron too.
Have you done also the injected tongue? I was not so happy with the previous ones ( they were very thick..)I''m getting the liners and soles, and if it is not enough, i'll add the injected tongue too.
Back in the mid 90's you could buy the shell of the boots without the liners, which was cool for getting custom liners. Now you have to buy full boot and get rid of the liner which makes full custom liners a pretty expensive option...unless you already have the boot, which all .900 riders have
Nils,
unfortunately i dont have the custom tongues. I am not 100% satisfied with the Sidas tongue i have because they are quite thick but nevertheless i still get some pain at my shinbone. Maybe an injected tongue could solve the problem.
Please let me know if you are satisfied with your new boot fitter and post a feedback for us all.
Thanks and good luck.
Thomas
I also have thin and sharp shin bones, and with my first injected boots, the pain was big there with the thick tongue, so i just glued two strips of neoprene (4mm thick by 2cm wide x 6 cm high) vertically about 5mm appart from the edge of the bone ( with neoprene glue directly on the tongue): all pains stopped very efficiently ! The tongue was then pushing on both sides of the shin edge without putting pressure on it !
I've also thin bones and I use Palau Overlap Soft http://www.palau-boutique.com/boutique/ ... um=0&pag=2
which are comfortable.
Garmont are better for my feet and seems to have a better construction.
Super light.
But are so thin and they are a bit small for my .900 so they move a bit inside the shell.
Palau are more thick and fill much better the shells.
The only downside of my foam injected liner is the weight. The fit is perfect, I even can loosen up my buckles a bit. Thermo's are much lighter and cheaper. There are also very good thermo's to buy, like this one you can bake this at home: http://www.carversparadise.com/alpin-th ... -1422.html
Done the work yesterday evening!
Fit is perfect, its nice to have, again, the feeling of perfect fit that no thermo will ever have!. The transfoam liner foam is way more flexy than the Comp i used to have!
Frank Peyrat is an orthopedist ( and also ski teacher) and knows his business ( has many anecdotes to share). For fun, Frank told me it would be interesting to check the pressure and the way I distribute it while walking, thus allowing for a better material choice for the custom soles.
So i walked on the capture plate and got an idea.
The rest is history ( I recommend Sidas socks for skiing they are just perfect: thin, warm, long lasting and match left and right foot.).
Compare to the original boot, the liner is shorter, but still over the plastic of the shell ( the originals are about 6-7cm above the plastic, pretty high!).
Cost is 270 euros here, price will vary accordingly to the quality of the soles and the materials used for them.
Basically, if your liners are 5-6 years old, and you hesitate between thermo and injected: do not hesitate anymore: for less than 100 euros above the cost of thermos ( done in a shop) you get a total custom liner!. Weight is a bit heavier than thermo, but lighter than the original liner. ( by the way, it seems no one cares about heavy weight today with plates and heavy boards beeing the trend!)

not quite, ( depends on the quality of the thermo) but a Sidas thermo with the soles is about 185 euros here ( don't forget the custom soles which add to the price!)
