Why set your bindings flat on the board?

Post by fivat » Wednesday 24 July 2002, 10:03

In the thread "Canting vrs Heel & Toe Lift"
viewtopic.php?t=19
Jacques has understood something very important, that should not pass unnoticed!

The whole discussion may appear complicated, so I post a new topic to focus on the following question:

Why set your bindings flat on the board?
Why avoid any canting pad?

Because the board bending during the laid turns already induces a canting under both feet.

A beginner, riding with a board which stays flat on the snow (no carving, only sliding) may feel uncomfortable. But a carver, doing EC turns, should note rapidly that no pads works better. The board bending puts the knees together.

Look at the following picture and notice how much the board is bent:

There are of course other reasons to not use pads. Check out the page:

This is exactly what I noticed last season. I switched from burton to f2 and the stupid 3x3 system didn´t fit into my f2 inserts. The special plates forced me to leave out the heal canting and I liked it A LOT better. It feels more natural, although sometimes the stand-position is a bit more uncomfortable... But hey! Snowboarding is about riding. :)
