Locking the board

Post by yomama » Tuesday 30 November 2010, 10:24

Just curious what people use out there for locking their dear Swoard?

Just run a locked cable through the bindings hoping that someone will not unscrew the bindings?

I never had my board stolen but it is nice to know that you can leave it out there without constantly keeping an eye on it.

Thanks beforehand

Think that there isn't a sealed solution to lock the board in open air :(

To be sure: the use of a locker or even better:

JUST DON'T STOP BOARDING

i have "inherent security features"- scratches, signature and tail delamination. Not sure if theft will pick my board beetween many shining polished metal Viruses :-)))

I not care about look of my board :-) Only about performance :-)

Ive had 2 boards stolen before.

I have bomber bindings that uses hex screws, and I use a little Burton cable lock. Its cheap and its probably worthless, but I always try to keep my snowboard in sight. Same thing with bicycle locks, if something really wants it than no lock can stop them.

I can tell you, you will not catch them if you're in hard boots...

I had my board stolen, too. It was stolen when I got of it to help some kids who just crashed. I left the board 10 metres behind me, when I got back it was already gone. I was not impressed.

Where I have ridden (Italy, France, Switzerland and Austria) it is usual to leave everything on the outside while having lunch. There are hundreds of skis and snowboards and usually they aren't stolen. I have always wondered why how is it possible..... Then I heard that somebody had his skis stolen.
Since I bought expensive equipment I use a very small lock with a thin metal cable, and I use it passing the cable in the bindings. It's not resistant at all, if somebody wants to steal my board he'll probably just be able to break the lock with his hands or cut the cable with a small cutter. Otherwise he can unscrew the bindings or open the bails.
Sill I think that most of this teft are carried out by somebody passing by and taking the board as it was his and going away unsuspected. If the board is locked in a crowded place probably the guy will choose something else. He will probably avoid cutting locks if he wants to be unnoticed!

The "problem" that I have is that when it go the slopes, I usually go with my family.

Most of slopes I am going to have a bus shuttle service to go to/from the car so it is a real pain to go back and forth to the car to swap carving gear.

So I bring my ski blades to ski with the kids and also my Swoard (Dual or Extremecarver). Obviously, when I ski with my kids, the Swoard is out of sight and unlock.

On the rack, I wrap the swoard against possible dings and I am not sure if it pull more/less attention to the board. But still, it is unlocked and when I ski with my kids, I am always worried.

I see a few reasons to steal a carving deck. When we carve on the hill, we pull a lot of attention (even a lot of attention if your last name is Fivat :D ). People with bad intentions would notice when you leave that "magical" board on the rack unlocked.

Hence, my question

but is sounds like the only option is to wrap a cable around the bindings then  .

Thanks everyone for replying.

I'm sometimes use these to lock board properly, either setting it to insert of board or to replace screw on my Bomber bondings, and then put proper lock cable thru it to lock it with some solid object

I use this since last year. When my board will be stolen, the thief won't have his ears anymore
