Super St-Bernard closed

Post by Schneewurm » Sunday 17 October 2010, 22:18

One other resort with steep slopes (watch picture here) remain closed upcomming winter, perhaps for ever. Last winter Airolo have been closed too.

Super St-Bernard is located on south-western part of Vallais / Switzerland on the border to Italy. The resort was proof against change of world-clima. It starts at 1950 m, which is realy high. The long gondola went up to 2800 m. Many skiers like this small resort. For to ride back to the base of gondola, there where only black slopes! Resort was good for freeriding. Carving on the steep slopes only early morning, after grooming (if there was) possible. Ticket-prices have been nice, SFr. 38.- (Euro 28.-) a day / SFr. 95.- (Euro 70.-) a day for a whole familiy (2+2).

Owner of skiarea had to take about 1'000'000 SFr. for renewing the gondola. But money was missing. Now they have the time for to watch how gondolas out of stainless steel become rusty.

And for sure the show on easy slope resorts will go on.

It's really bad news. :(
I love this small place: excellent for freeriding and not bad for alpine snowboarding.
