Pyrenees

Post by zbird » Tuesday 20 July 2010, 5:21

I am moving to France next year near Toulouse and Pamiers. What ski areas are decent for carving in the Pyrenees? I know there are quite a number of areas up there but it is hard to find pictures that show ANY groomed runs.

Thats realy a great decision! On the Pyrenees You will find more then 200 summits which are higher than 3000 m in front of Your feets. Keep in mind, there are countrys in Europe where people like to talk a lot about their "high carving skill", which don't have any single mountain reaching up to 3000 m.
Follow the road maps of the "Tour-de-France" cycling race and You will find a lot ski areas there on the Pyrenees mountains, like Luz Ardiden, Grand Tourmalet - La Mongie, Gourette, Piau, Peyresourde, Hautacam (small) and so on.

Yes of course, in the Pyrenees they build sometimes chairlifts for to be a decoration of mountains, as You can see on picture below from La Pierre Ste. Martin's webpage.
Otherwise it can be a good idea, to post Your question on the french part of this forum. There must be a hard core of riders which know very well where to ride on the Pyrenees. Even a handfull registred riders here from/around Toulouse knows there is more, like e.g. riding a snowboard, then playing rugby only!
