Bootfitting by myself

Post by joemzl » Friday 22 January 2010, 12:32

My Suzukas make my right big toe feel pain. :vamp:
So I plan to heaten the shell.
Question is now: will I have to cool down quick or slow? Does it matter?
Some time ago a shop did some heating at an older boot and placed it afterwards into the snow.
So, what is better :?:

I did the fitting and everything is fine now. :angel2:

Cooling down fast or slow wasn´t the problem.
But to widen the shell, even if the plastic is very hot -
man I can tell you .... it was hard work. :evil2:

Nice job! What kind of tools did you use to widen the shell?

well, it wasn´t very professional, but ......ok.
At that place where I wanted to widen the shell, I used the handle of a screwdriver.
It was big and small enough to make enough place for the toe.
I prevented my hand of the tip from the screwdriver with a greater metal piece to have enough force for pressing.
But even with hardest pressing I had to overheaten the plastic a bit.
Or it wouldn´t have worked.

Btw: a normal hairdrier gives not enough heat.
I used a semi professional hot air drier.
(used par example for removing varnish from wood)
