Best time for spring carving days now!

Post by Schneewurm » Monday 6 April 2009, 22:54

Check out weather and slope conditions!
Beside the third week of March, last week (and also now) brought bright and warm spring time snow/weather conditions. Icy slopes in the morning to deep slushy slopes at afternoon with tons of snow! Slopes are now (also at well known resorts) nearly empty and free for use them at full width.

I will bring You some examples:

Picture-1: My off-piste speed-runs today afternoon with a Pogo Impact, on deep slush. Watch out the 4-seats-chairlift - free of any other skiers/snowboarders.

Picture-2: Due of the higher temperature this four German skiers take a deck-chair, a sheep-pelt, put away their jacked and let themself browned by high UV radiation on the top of the mountain.

Picture-2: Watch now one of best carving slopes. We are now on April and the sun is high on the sky at 1:30 p.m. Can You imagine how steep a slope must be, for to see bottom side of the the roof from chairlift building and the sun close to it!

Some impressions from different resorts at the last springtime weeks:

Picture-1: Actual snowhigh in Switzerland like from last week, gives a good feeling for next days/weeks or probaple next month ridings.

Picture-2: As an authentic carver I like very much to ride on nearly free nice slopes. So I did it during hours in a high intense way. This gives me the freeness to let all the orginal easter wintersports-super-tourists ride this slopes without to be disturbed from a carver like me!

Picture-3: Taking a lift steep up to the sky, means You can enjoy some nice carves like up to heaven.

@ starikashka
Yes I took some! The bubble-angle-meter inclines ways above like on Sölden's or Silvretta Nova's slopes!

And when you are above the stratus which covers all the country, alone in the sun, it's cool too. 8)
The two pictures below were taken on Monday 30th March. Altitude 2900m.
The stratus is very seldom in my favorite area (center of Valais). At such an altitude (up to 2600m!) it's even more seldom. 8O It happens once in a season there.

... above the stratus which recovers all the country, alone in the sun ...
Yes its a feeling like to be in heaven. We have it often, on differential highness. It gives every time an other sight of the area!

for to be continued:

Picture-1: Well indeed, snow-high is now extra-ordinary. Happy skiers are asked not to swing their sticks up to the sky right under this powerline to Italy. Just to prevent a blackout of whole Italy, due of the shortening circuit of the wires by a ski-stick! Mast was close to the slope!

Picture-2: Most people like to ride skis and snowboards in crowds, like sheeps love to be. So they think lonly riding is a punishment like to be in prison. As an authentic snowboarder I can manage it well, to share a 1900 meter long skilift with only one other person!

Picture-3: By the way for downhill, I was not lucky to use only this, as You can see, nearly free, wide high speed slope. So I dicided to use the whole area for to ride with my Nidecker snowboard.

I hate spring mainly because of the pollen! :-(

If the mountains are too crowded at your place during Easter, drive to the south and enjoy the sea. ;-)

I love springtime riding!

Sure I do!

Picture-1: I was in Davos Klosters Mountains some days ago. I had to take up my last free ticket for to ride at the whole resort. So I went to this high performance wintersport entertainement station from Switzerland, for to have some carves at a deep blue sky. As You can see on the scan of my keycard (handfree access to the lifts), I paid Swiss Francs 0.00 for to go. I tried to convert this amount to Euro or Dollars by a internet based currency converter. But this machines denyed to convert 0.00 SFr. So I can not say how much it is in Euro or in $. O.k. for me it was like to ride there without any payments. But counterwise I had to use in the morning a crowded gondola from Klosters up to Gotschna. They filled in 101 persons in the 125-person gondola. A feeling like to be a sardine in the box. I think His Sir Prince Charles from the UK, can ascent with a privat course, if he is skiing at Klosters.

Picture-2: Sure I saw more people on slopes like on other small resorts. But due to the nice and free slopes, three locals from Davos area like also to ascent in the gondola up to Jakobshorn. They enjoyed the slopes with their own tools. 3 mono-skier from well known brands, what a nice view!

Picture-3: And now watch the slope No 6 (red) from Jackobshorn in Davos Klosters Mountains! Sometimes this three slopes are reserved for some ski-racings like slalom, giant slalom or snowboard alpine racing, for FIS races and Swiss championships.
The upper part was on a well prepared and icy status up to 3 p.m. And due to the triple size on the left side and an additional blue slope on the right side, this slope was at nearly free of other people - watch the foto! So You can carve as You want to do.
As a free and authentic carver I felt comfy, to use this width like a champion does it on a race - the whole slope just during the downhill at me!

Thanks to Davos - Klosters - Mountains !

Another great resort up there is Suomu, where we will have our Easter session starting on Thursday  if weather is good i film something and shoot it up to net later. btw i dont know if our StPetersburg firends will join us, there was discussion about that in Oppdal anyway :P

New year is another story due it is too early season, but normally both should be fine also that time. But biggest problem has been in Ylläs that there is so much folks celebrating Christmas, many of your country men
That is why i went tot Zinal this year for change
