The lowest temperature you got this season (in your car)

Post by fivat » Thursday 26 February 2009, 15:16

Here is a thread for fun. We don't need to post serious or technical subjects all the time. ;-)

I took this picture in my car this season. This was the temperature in my favorite resort (Zinal, Switzerland). 8O

And you, what did you get? Not at the top of the slopes, but in your car.

The guy with the lowest temperature wins a Swoard! ;-) Joking! I'm sure that the winner could be from Canada or Russia. :D

Too Cold in the Great White North!

Post by rcrobar » Friday 27 February 2009, 6:07

Hi Pat

It was -22 this morning, Feb 26/09. Last night I played ice hockey, our ice times are sometimes very late in the evening. By the time my game ended, I had a shower, had a beer with the team it was 1:00am in the morning ... the temperature in my car read -28C when I left the rink! In Smithers BC, several weeks ago, it was -22 while boarding all day, a few weeks before this is was -27 at Powder King, BC. The snow is awesome and there are NO crowds on the slopes 8O Next year I will be buying a pair of these as my feet freeze ALL the time!!

It must be the globale warming. For some reason the lowest temperature in my local resort was only -17, and Norway is supposed to be the cold north. However, it has been colder in the mountain resorts. Personally I prefer between -1 and -6.

Yes Rob, I guessed that Canada would win! :D

We would need snowboards with special bases to glide well at -30 °C!

Canadian Winter

Post by rcrobar » Friday 27 February 2009, 17:06

The scary thing about Canadian winters is that Central Canada (Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon) make Northern BC feel like Hawaii!! Some of the temperatures, with the wind chill factor, this winter were just crazy cold (-40, etc). Sometimes I think Canadians rule, other times I think we are just insane; the nickname 'Crazy Canucks' is well earned in many ways.

Again, -20C this morning! about 8 days ago is was +5 and the water was running in the streets! Makes me wonder, as Harold mentioned, about our changing climate! Minus 10C and no rain all winter would be perfect for me!

Time to start the car ... always fun in Feb!

Rob....I had -45 in Toronto in 1993...but some of my classmates that lived up north close to hudson bay frequently experienced -60 due to the wind coming from the north pole...

-60 is crazy. I was experienced once -50 when i was in business trip...day before there was -20, such a great temperature...For people who not permanently affected by such extreme temperatures very difficult to breathe...

My classmates go to military academy after school :-) they told me that they got warm wool coats for morning parade ( not sure it`s a right word ) only if temperature is below -40 :-)

BTW - coldest point in the world is in Russia - small village Oymyakon in Yakutia.

My car today in Trento (Italy): +13C.

Did I win anything?

Seriously: my - oh my!
-50C is something I just could not fathom.

The coldest I have EVER been was a Christmas in Montreal, where the thermometer showed a -29C and ... boy that was COLD!!!!
But -50 - just unthinkable. Do car motors run at those temperatures?
Does *anything* run at those temperatures?

Ciao to all.
