Need help about 'extreme carving' snowboard

Post by AndreA » Sunday 15 February 2009, 2:46

hi to all,
hope all is well.
this is my first message as i just became a new member...
i have a small question and i do hope you can help me.
After several years of not going on a mountain, I recently restarted carving and it was a great decision as it made me feel so much younger.
I also realized that finding a carving snowboard is quite hard in Montreal as you only have one store that offers limited carving boards. Also, now that i learned about extreme carving, i am blown away and would love to be able to carve to that limit. I recently read about sword snowboards and i'm wondering from you guys (girls) if it's the best one on the market for extreme carving. I obviously can't try it in demos as i can only purchase it online. i recently did buy a prior WCR metal 173 (19.5 cm waist) and i want to make sure that purchasing a sword will be a smart decision and not a waist of money!
finally, i don't put a high angle on the bindings because of an old injury, so, with a 168 cm board and a 45 degree angle on my back foot, would i hang over the baord?
thanking you in advance,
Andre

Prior WCR is also available now with 21cm waist, so that is good easy to get option for you too. There is also option to ask Fatjack of them as 177/23cm  or you can go to full custom.

We can't figure out your boot out if we don't know your foot size and preferably the type of boot ;)

Andre, welcome! 8)
Read in details the Swoard pages (click here), in particular the last points.
Swoard is the orignal extremecarving board and is not a "waste of money", as all the Swoarders will tell you... :D

AndreA,

we can confirm Patrices words. The SWOARD is definitly NOT a waste of money. I had a F2 Silberpfeil before, my husband a Donek. We had considered the Prior, but after lots and lots of information, watching extremecarving.com and participating the ECS 2008, we decided to go for the SWOARD. Meanwhile we are three wanabee extreme carvers on a SWOARD in our family and the fourth is ordered.
And we did not regret for one single second :!:

So if you decide to buy, it will be, as far as we are concerned, the best carve board you can get. It takes you trough the turn without hesitation. You just have to trust your board.

I tried a swoard and compared with other EC boards :-) The board was 175XH and i would need 175H or even M flex :-) Very easy to laydown, should be perfect for a steep slopes. It is like cruiser...very stable and slow...I like lighter boards :-) that i tried too heavy..

AndreA, if you want to master EC - get the board designed for that style. There are several options avaliable, you to decide :-) But most of people who do good EC ride a Swoard :-)

A XH is of course heavier than a H and even more than a M, because the core is thicker!
The 161 XS is very very light! ;-)

Important: test the proper size and flex for you. Here is a table where I summarize the "Board selection" page.

Flex of Swoard

Post by harald » Tuesday 17 February 2009, 9:41

Hi,
If you are uncertain about your carving abilities and still is learning the EC-technique, I would recommend a softer flex than the table indicates. See my comparison between 168 H and 168 M in viewtopic.php?p=51621#51621. I am 178 and my weight is abt 80 kg.
