This is a question for the Fins around here.
I spend a year in Vasa for my studies and will join a trip to Levi from 1.-8. of February 2009.
Does anybody know if there are some slopes where one can do some proper laid turns or is it to flat over there???
What are the temperatures like up there in February? Are many slopes equipped with flood lights or is February actually a bad time to go?

There several good carving slopes to lay down trenchies in Levi. But most of us prefer Ylläs and Suomu more due less people and even better slopes.

IMHO, Levi is not the best ski resort for carving in Finland. Out of the high season it is quite allright, but by far not the best one. During the holiday season it is sometimes really crowded and also fairly expensive resort. Like Pokkis said, Ylläs and Suomu are more attractive places. Levi and Ylläs are nearby each other (~50 km), and you can easily browse through the resorts as a daytrip by bus or your own car.
In Finland, January and February are midwinter time in Lappland. Temperature can vary quite a lot, from -30 to +5 (or sometimes even more). Natural light time between sunrise and sunset is not very long, only couple of hours. However, it is not a problem as all the major resorts have good artificial lights nowadys. Just be prepared, and buy some warm underwear for outdoords and good gloves, and you will do fine in Lappland.
Actually, many tourists (particularly from UK) come to Lappland because of raw beauty of its nature and exotic climate. When temperature is getting cold, you can see auroral reflections on the sky. Some people think they make women extremely fertile, and they come to Lappland hoping to see the sky on fire

I've heard that Ylläs is supposed to be better but since it's an organized trip by the university and it is quite cheap I thought it's better than nothing
. But browsing to Ylläs sounds like an interesting option.
"Seeing the sky on fire" I think I need to go there with my girlfriend who is actually British. Haha...
