Hi dam_sdam_s wrote:what gives the new nuts on the RAB
This is a good question about the new nut (I didn’t describe it in detail yet).
The reason is easy: At the heel of the boot there is a little "edge" (there where the bottom part of the springsystem is mounted with a bolt). You can see this "edge" in the pic. If you increase the backward lean by my modification and in addition use a longer spring, the nut moves over this edge. Because the original nut is not skew, the movement is blocked when going backward. The “skewness” of the new nut helps to pass the this edge at the heel of the boot very smooth.
The longer the spring is, the more the problem occurs. Very short springs help to avoid this problem so that the original nut can be used. The disadvantage of short springs is a smaller range, of course. My first version was without this skew-nut, but it didn’t work to my satisfaction with long springs. Now it’s ok
Please let me know if I made this modification clear enough or if you need further information.
Best Regards
Olaf
PS: I’m still thinking about an idea to increase the lateral flex of this boot. Ideas are welcome
