I am a beginner in snowbard, so I won't tell you about more than 1 board:

For me it is:
Burton Balance 157.5.
http://www.burton.com/MENS_GEAR/BOARDS/ ... =B20403041

I tried a lot of boards lasts months, it is very important!
I found 2/3 board that really fit may pleasure!

The Balance is more a toy than a board,... I learned a lot since I ride it... but this is only the 10th time... snow time is over...

However, Balance is not a carving board (not very wide),... even if one could find some carving pleasure with it since it have a very good 'edge grip',...

It really worth a try.

I'm joining in on this query a little late but, I hope to add something to the mix of great gear. I ride mostly soft champagne-quality snow in northern Utah USA. Some days are worst than others. I've ridden from 36" freshies to 4 week old groomies; blue skies to puking snow days. I ride green circles and blue squares on 43 year old knees. I put in 22 days on the hill last season. Here's the tool list:

Planks:
Rossi Recycler 172cm (this taught me to carve in softies)
Rossi FC 159cm (very agile)
Rossi Levitation 170cm (best all mtn. carver I've got)
Rossi Undertaker 198cm (it carves, it rides pow, it's BIG)
Rossi Race 171cm (given to a friend who will power it up)
Burton Safari 175cm (this was my intro to the 'dark side')
Burton M8 (I'm still a Padawan on this monster)
Winterstick 185 Anniversary (NOTHING touches the speed of a ST)
Burton Elite 150 (now lives as a sandboard in my garage)

Binders:
Bomber TD's (stiff, accurate, crisp)
Burton Carrier (great for softer days)
Rossi SIS/Emery (I hated straps after these)
Burton Custom 3-straps (my son rides these now)
Burton Vaders 3-straps (I bring'em out once a year)

Feet Tourniquets:
Nordica SBH Classic (soft and comfy)
Burton Shadow (too soft and comfy)
Rossi SIS Solo FC (haven't used these yet)
Rossi SIS FC (comfort, quick in and out, and control)

The only reason I don't have a Coiler, Donek, or Prior is because of my access to some great Rossi products. When Rossi stops alpine production this year, I'll be contacting the other manufacturers. BTW, the Levitation is an absolute great board for all-mountain, all-condition riding. It's production stops this year, also.

Generics IQ 148, bought in 1993, Blax bindings, old an soft, too short, but beautyful asymmetric shape and dark green surface with whit stripes

Plasma agressive 157, Proflex titan bindings, green with yellow sidewalls
  looks like it's named, agressively

boots UPS Asymmetrical, bought in 1993, too soft, hardly can be called hardboots, need harder ones this winter!!

About 10 years ago I started out with a

Mistral Escape 63 with Emery bindings (the ones you have to especially drill holes for). Broke a few screws and then the inserts went. Dangerous times... 8)

then it was time for a

Burton E63 (I think) with Burton Performance plates and Raichle 325 (if I recall correctly)

the burton is far too weak, I had no money for the Silberpfeil I longed for so I got a

Speedster GTS 63

My next board is either a custom made extremecarving machine, a Silberpfeil or the Rossignol 180 worldcup board I tested last year and that scared the s... out of me..... 8O

I want SSSNNNNOOOOWWWWW!!!!

well if its going to be the rossi, its >>>

going to be a 2001-2002 model, because Rossignol quits the alpine market.

Big rumors say also that hot snowboards and hammer are on the edge....meaning Rossi is almost ready to kick them out of business... Hard times.. We provided the survival tools for skiing (new shapes, new feelings...) and now the ski business puts us on survival...

what, really? That really is too bad. I was told once by a friend of mine who owns a snowboardshop that there´s not much money being made with selling snowboards. Clothing does have a huge margin though.
So I guess that´s why these brands leave the market. Just selling snowboards isn´t enough.
I still think there´s a market for smaller-scale producers. The companies you mentioned a really commercial onces. They earn more by selling ski´s I guess. And then just dump the snowboard division cause they don´t make enough cash...
In Austria there´s this Ekhart (or Eckhart) guy that makes custom boards, with carbon and air chambres, and I believe he makes good money with it...

Jasper

BTW, Nice to see there are other people craving for riding time already!

Well, I could not afford too many boards until now, so only now where I start earning some money it can become more... :)
In the beginning: one freeride board by burton where I do not remember the name...
Rossignol FC 159 (?) - good board, for narrow slopes
F2 Speedster RS 172 - very good board, fast and speedy!, very good edge grip
Virus Dragster - very good board, quite versatile, very short radius (thus quite aggressive in sharp turns...).
And in the future : EC board 180 ??? Awaited eagerly!!!

Eduard.

ehhh..bit nervous??

Post by nils » Tuesday 19 November 2002, 5:28

come on just make sure u bring the 197 burner on a day where schools are skiing :) then it will be scary for sure...i love the nervous feeling bout a new board, i have it every time i ride a new board too :)

as for how many boards i take out.. i'd say i tend to bring 3-4: 2 swallowtails so i can lend one or use the oldest one when rocks are too close... same for race/carve tools.. the old rossi is for rock days when the new carver (proton will be replaced by EC board) is for rockless days

needless to say its always a negociation with wife ;)

I am currently riding on:
Virus Dragster
Donek Axis
Skwal freeride
All are equiped with F2/Proflex titanflex step in bindings.

My quiver is constantly changing, with these 3 that would make about 25 boards so far that I have owned. Looking forward to give the Swoard a little dance maybe next season.
Cheers,
Laurent (The Rock) Larocque

Hi,

I'm French and I don't know what a 'quiver' is, but I gess it has something to do with what's in the garage :)

I have always had juste one board at a time. Currentlty a Burton FP 64-18, with Burton binding and Head Stratos Pro Shoes.

Before that I've had 2 Rossi Race 59 boards ('93 and '98), a pair of Nordica SBH and Raichle SB124.

I usually ride my board 20/30 time a year, and keep them 3 to 4 years.
Now that I have a job, hopefully I can buy a Swoard without selling the FP, and find a Burton Air w/ Torque bindings, for my museum :)

Problem is I spend more time on my bike than on my board, and it costs a bit to ride :)
Currently Yam Thundercat + Honda CB500.

That's all for now.

you got it: basically, a quiver is worn by an archer and contains the arrows. carquois in french.

- burton M6 163cm with old burton bindings
- miura matanza 169cm with flow FL11 bindings and salomon synapse boots
- hot special 167cm with F2 carveRS bindings
- raichle AF700 boots

and before the end of the year (perhaps before the end of the season), I plan to buy:
- swoard extremecarver 175cm
- and a swallowtail. still have to try the miura one...
